The
Fish Offense still not Biting Malden (BNN): The Bluefish road trip down Route 60 was not a pleasant one, as 2008 Cy Young Winner Adam Del Rio silenced the Bluefish while leading Malden to a 4-1 win on Tuesday Night at Malden Catholic. Del Rio had some control problems at times, but settled in when he needed to pick up his first win in 2009. Chris Hartery continues to be one of the few Bluefish to swing the stick well, going 2 for 2 with a double and a triple, while Chris Caprio drove in the only Bluefish run with a 2 out infield single with the Bases Loaded. Jay Wisner pitched the 7th for his first save of the season for the Bulldogs. The Bluefish look to snap out of it's offensive funk with a game Thursday Night vs. Savin Hill, game time 8pm at McConnell Park in Savin Hill. Chris Sandini, one of the Bluefish aces from 2008, will be making his first start of the season. Postgame Quotes from Skip: (On the Bluefish Offense) "We have struggled out of the gate offensively in the past, so I am not particularly worried just yet, especially when I have a few guys who are struggling that typcially don't." "We are not hitting at all, yet have been in all three games, so we'll get to where we need to." (On Kevin Graham's Performance) "I felt that Kevin threw the ball very well. He comes from a high level Division 2 program in New England (UMASS-Lowell), so I knew that he would be highly skilled with the ability to throw multiple pitches for strikes, which he did tonight. Very good performance for not having thrown competitively for a while. I may have left him out there a batter or two too long." (On Jason Recore's injury) "When Jason went back for that bleeder, I could tell that the step before his dive that his hamstring went on him. We will see how he is pregame on Thursday Night, but if I had to write the lineup card up right now, he wouldn't play."
Bluefish Get Back the Winning Feeling West Roxbury (BNN): The Bluefish christened the new place just like they have for all their home fields recently, with a win. Thanks to some good relief pitching, a couple home field bounces, and a Chris Caprio Double, the Bluefish extend their home field winning streak to 20 straight, with a 3-1 win over the Brighton Black Sox at Billings Field in West Roxbury. Matt Vezina got the win in relief, going 2.2 IP, giving up 2 hits while walking 0 and striking out 4. His college teammate, Chris Sandini, pitching 2 hitless innings for the save, also with 4 strike outs. The big hit of the game was an RBI Double from Chris Caprio.
Defending Champions Go Down Early Dorchester (BNN): The 2009 Season started the same way as the 2007 season, 2005 season, as the Bluefish would go down to the Harbor Point Dodgers by a score of 4-2. The Bluefish have never been a consistently good team at the start of any season (minus the 5-0 start last year), and it showed vs. the Dodgers. "Nobody ever likes to lose, but we saw some good things out of the back end of our roster, showing that we have the depth to compete in the league", states manager Skip McCarty. "Lambrecht had not thrown in a competitive game in a couple years, and he had us in a 2-2 game in the 4th inning." "This is very encouraging, again, knowing that our entire pitching staff will contribute this year." The offense collected 7 hits, with 7 starters each collecting 1 hit a piece. "Pitching is always ahead of hitting early in the season, and their guy threw strikes all day long." "Unfortunately, it translated into outs today." SUNDAY NOTES:
--Conor Fahey and Josh Simmons: McCarty notes, "Yeah, we are waiting for both Conor and Josh to complete their college seasons." "Conor just pitched the finals of the ECAC New England Tournament, and are awaiting word if they will make the NCAA's, which is the same thing Josh is waiting to hear on down at Wheaton." --Bobby Foote: "Footie is out for at least 2 more weeks with mono. We'll continue to monitor his situation, and actually ask to produce a doctor's note to be on injured reserve."
Bluefish Latest News and Notes, May 7th Edition --The 2009 Roster has been announced by Manager Skip McCarty, and can be found on the 2009 Roster link along the top of the screen. "We are pretty happy with where we stand right now", says Skip McCarty, "but we are still awaiting a few more players finishing up their college seasons, so we are hoping to add another player or two to our roster." "Larry Charbonneau (Bluefish Recruiting Coordinator) has brought in some quality players over the last few seasons, and 2009 is no different." "If he can land the last 2 players we are really hoping will come play for us, we should be in better shape than we were in 2008 when we won the championship." --2009 Schedule: The Schedule is officially out.
