Have you ever compared yourself to someone who claimed to be a christian?
Have you ever known someone who does not even claim to be a christian,
yet
they
are loving, kind, charitable, would not hurt a fly, let alone another
human being?
Well there is good news for those of us that have thought that way. God said it is not what we have done, or not done, but it is what his son has already done. You see, if getting into heaven or into the presence of God, was dependent on what we have done or can do, we would never make it. God has made it clear that we could never be good enough to be allowed in his Kingdom, by our own efforts. If we could have, then God did not need to offer his only Son as a sacrifice, in our place.
There was one huge thing that was stopping us from entering into God's presence, it is called SIN!
We are all guilty of it and there was no way that we could get rid of it. In todays society, we are forced into comparing ourselves with others. Am I as good as the next guy, is he as good as me. How many times have you heard someone say, if that guy is a christian, then I don't have anything to worry about, I know I am better then he is.
The person that we should be comparing ourselves to is Jesus. The scriptures say that he is the only one that ever lived a sinless life. We can't say that. No matter how hard we try, or how many doors we knock on, we will never, by our own efforts attain a sinless life. The more we try, the more we fail.,
The really good news is that Jesus has attained for us what we could never attain ourselves. By trusting in him and his righteousness, we are seen by God as also being righteous. Not by anything we have done, but by what Jesus has done. He died on the cross in our place, to take the punishment that we deserved and paid the debt that we owed. We no longer need to work our way to heaven. Jesus did it for us. Now we are free to get on with living the christian life and telling others, about Jesus.
