Wow, this year went by awfully fast. I guess that happens when you keep busy. Watching
Jillian grow from an infant to a toddler was certainly the best part of the year. Buying a new house that we can hopefully
live in for many years was another major event. But I'm here now to recap my adventures in running for 2008...
On January 1st, I had set my goals for the year. Let's see how well I did on those...
1) Remain injury-free.
Umm, no. The broken ankle in early April was the worst injury I've suffered since I began
running. It sidelined me for 12 weeks, and obviously affected many of my other goals as well.
2) Run 4 marathons, and set a new PR under 3:45.
Didn't happen, because of the ankle. I was registered for two marathons that I had to bail
on: Eugene OR in May and San Diego in June. I did run two in 2008: Birmingham AL in Februrary before the injury, and Tulsa OK in November afterwards. I got my PR in Birmingham in 3:47:27. I was confident that I could break 3:45 in Eugene,
but alas never got the chance to find out.
3) Run the New Haven 20k for a fifth straight year, and get a new PR.
Well, I was basically successful with this. I ran New Haven, and I did get a 20k PR.
But not at the same time. My 20k PR came in Newark in March. I was healed from the injury in time to run in New
Haven, but I was out-of-shape enough to be a bit slow. Nonetheless, I'll take it.
4) Run a Half Marathon somewhere and get a new PR.
Nope. I had a HM scheduled for the day after I broke the ankle. And I never scheduled
another one. Maybe next year.
5) New 5k PR.
Finally, a clear winner! I broke my 5k PR twice in October, and was quite pleased to do so.
6) 1600 total miles.
Another no. Missing 12 weeks will do that. I ended the year with 1160.5 and might have
been just about on pace for 1600 had the injury not happened. Oh well.
So I guess that makes me 2 for 6. I will list my 2009 goals soon, and hopefully I'll do better
next year...
Wow, it's been a while since I've posted. I guess I've been busy. That, or I've had nothing to say.
Well, things always get busy around the holidays. It's going to be a fun Christmas this year with a toddler around.
She still doesn't quite understand what's going on, of course. But I'm sure it'll be enjoyable nonetheless.
We're supposed to get a decent amount of snow today. We'll see how that works out. These things have a way
of just blowing over. Hey, it's not even Winter yet.
Well, if I don't check in again in the next week or two, have a Merry Christmas everyone, and a Happy New Year.
