Questions ...
When does the School day begin and end?

School begins at 8:00 am and concludes at 2:30 pm. Children should not arrive at school before 7:50 am. Unless special arrangements have been made. The faculty and staff have morning meetings, so for safety sake, we ask that the children not arrive before 7:50 am. Early dismissal is at 12 noon. The students do eat lunch on early dismissal days.

What if my child is absent or needs to be dismissed early?

If your child is going to be absent please call the school office before 8:45 am. When your child returns from his/her absence, please write a note explaining or acknowledging the absence. It is also necessary to find out what work was missed during the absence. We will be more than happy to send homework home with a sibling or friend. You may also pick-up the homework in the office after 2:30 pm.
If your child needs to be dismissed early, a note should be sent prior to the dismissal. You or an authorized adult should come into the office to meet your child and sign your child out of the school. No child will be allowed to leave the school or wait outside of the building without an authorized adult. If your child returns from an early dismissal, please sign your child back in at the school office.

What if my child forgets something at home?

If your child forgets something at home and you wish to deliver it, please bring whatever it is to the office. We will see that your child gets it. Please mark the item with your child’s name and grade.

What about lunch?

Hot lunches are available.

What about a Dress Code?

Students at BRC wear uniforms as detailed in the school handbook. Shirts and blouses are to be tucked in to slacks and pants. Appropriate school shoes and socks are to be worn. Tennis shoes are only permitted in gym class. Dress and grooming are important. Emphasis is on cleanliness and neatness. Extreme fads and styles are neither appropriate nor acceptable for school.

The above grid depicts the average grade equivalent scored by a class in the

Core subject areas of the Terra Nova Tests for the 2006-2007 school years.

The scores are just part of the overall assessment of students.  Scores are used to determine the strengths and weaknesses of students and give the teachers an idea of issues that must be addressed.

2007 ACRE Tests

Students in grades 5 and 8 take the NCEA Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE).  This assessment is given nationally to assess students’ knowledge of the faith.  The scores are used to give teachers an idea of program strengths and weaknesses.

What does all of this mean?

The results of these Terra Nova and ACRE tests indicate that BRC students scored above the national norms.  These scores confirm that our students are learning and continually improving. The longer a student remains at BRC, the greater are his or her achievements.
