Add or Update a BBS

Requirements for inclusion on the USBBS List:

  • The BBS must welcome ALL callers.
  • Dial-up - 24 hour, 7 days per week service.
  • Telnet - Substantially 24 hour, 7 days per week service.

These criteria are admittedly subjective and rest in the discretion of the editor of the list. The editor reserves the absolute, discretionary right to determine the appearance, format and content of the USBBS List.

Email (optional)

An email address is optional. This information is never published in the USBBS List and never released to anyone. The USBBS List does not contain email addresses.

NOTE: If there is a question about your listing and the editor cannot contact you, the listing may not be included in the USBBS List.

Sysop Name (required)

Enter a First and Last name for the Sysop.

Use one of the following two options.

Option 1: The Sysop's real first-and-last name can be used (preferred).

Option 2: A real-sounding first-and-last alias name can be used.

Handles and the names of famous people (real or fictional) are not acceptable. If you enter a handle, it will be assumed you wish the editor to create a real-sounding name for you.

Enter a REAL or REAL SOUNDING FIRST AND LAST name.

Enter the city, then the two-character abbreviation for the state. Canadian boards, enter your province. Puerto Rico boards, enter PR.

NOTE: The maximum BBS name length on the list is 21 characters. If the name of this BBS is longer than 21 characters, enter the full name in the Full BBS Name space below and the preferred abbreviation in the BBS Name for USBBS List space. If the full BBS name is 21 characters or less, enter the full name in both spaces.

No - no fees are required for any access.
Optional - fees are collected for some access, and some access (i.e. 30 minutes with access to most features of the BBS) is either free or for a participation fee (e.g. upload or message ratios).

The USBBS List contains a one-line, 70 character 'extra-info' field.
This can be anything, provided it promotes your BBS and/or can be proven.
For example: 'This is the greatest BBS in the world' cannot be proven.
Note: What is entered here may be edited for content, grammar, spelling etc.

Please enter the board's phone number. The format must be ###-###-####.

If you are entering a BBS which does not have Dial-up, enter 000-000-0000.

If you have multiple lines, enter the main phone number where new callers have access to the BBS.

Note: A BBS must answer the phone (unless 000-000-0000 is entered).

If you are changing a phone number for a BBS already on USBBS, enter the NEW number above and the OLD number below IF it is currently listed in USBBS. If your are a Telnet Sysop no longer offering dial-up, enter 000-000-0000 above and the phone number to remove below IF it is currently listed in USBBS.

Web Browser Log-in Access

You may enter a web page if the user can log into and use the BBS using only a web browser. This requires that the page contain a user-name and password entry field, -OR- a Java Telnet application.

NOTE: A web page which contains a TELNET URL which simply launches the user's Telnet client is -not- Web Browser Log-in Access.
