At 10:30 hours this morning
a small detail from VVA Chapter 966 arrived in the area of 116 Chance Street, Fayetteville, NC, home of the local
VFW Post and site of the annual Homeless Stand-down.
Once inside the Post building
the aroma of fresh breakfast food filled the air. Homeless people, both men and women, were finishing up the breakfast
that was provided for free. The breakfast and later a free lunch were not the only amenities available to the folks,
haircuts, flu shots, blood pressure checks, VA eye care information was available. VA Service Officers were on hand to provide
benefit information to qualified vets and many other tables were setup around the room.
Outside the building there
was a huge open sided tent setup. At a designated time the folks walked through the tent area and were handed new pants,
shirts, boots, sleeping bags and mats, toiletries and just about everything they need to survive the outdoors.
This was our first Stand-down
experience and we all agreed it was worthwhile and rewarding.

American Flag retirement program is very active with over one thousand flags accepted. The flags are
being delivered to the Airborne/Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville for retirement.
