- Top Ten Links
- This site lists hundreds of links covering different
categories. They rate their sites by various
conditions, and let you provide input to their rankings.
They also have a search engine and translation into
other languages.
- PC
Magazine's 100 Top Web Sites/a>
- They have their list of top 100 'undiscovered'
websites and top 100 traditional websites. They are listed
by categories, with a short write-up on each site. The
'undiscovered' sites aren't that undiscovered.
- Open Directory
Project
- Great collection of sites, with descriptions for many
of them. Something like my site, but much larger: it has a
staff.
- Webby Awards
- 'Presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts
and Sciences and hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet"
by worldwide media', is what they say. There are 22
categories, with 5 nominees for each category. So the
sites listed here should be good ones.
-
Librarian's Index to the Internet
- Look up sites by category, alphabetical index, or just
do a search. A strong list of sites that cover the topics.
And if you don't find what you want here, they have alist of
search engines to use. This is a good place to get
information. They cover more than 5200 internet resources.
Brought to you from the University of California, Berkeley
Public Library.
- Consumer World
- Consumer World provides links to sites that
help the consumer. Whether it is shopping, government,
your rights, telephone directories, or whatever, this site
seems to have it all. The most interesting section is
Consumer Resources . The one annoyance with the
sight is how close together the lines are with the links'
names. It makes hard reading. You have to look carefully
to see all that they list. But it sure is worth it. Give
this site a try.
- Reference Desk
- Reference Desk sounds like they have all kind
of information, but instead they are a good source of links on
various topics.
- Wired Guide
- Wired Guide says it provides internet
information for newbies, but I find it a good source of all
kinds of links. Some topics only have a few links, but
there is much here to check out.
- Dictionary
- Besides for their major area of linking to a few
sites like Roget's Thesaurus and foreign language
dictionaries, and providing a search for word definitions,
they provide a supply of links to many good sites. But
there are a lot of linking to get to some sites. Many of
their categories , though, are businesses.
This isn't really best sites, but it does provide a pretty
good list.
- All Site Cafe
- Lists of links to the best sites or pages for Internet
and Computing information, Software, Search Engines, plus
Hollywood, and just Fun Stuff. Of course many are
familiar, but many aren't. I wouldn't necessarily call
these the best sites, since there are often too many on one
subject, but a good listing.
