- Info Please
- InfoPlease lets you look up information on many
subjects. A pretty good source. But you do have to
traverse from one link to another. For some
areas you have to use a search.
But it can be
a fun site.
- Bartleby
- Bartleby provides for searches through
dictionaries, encyclopedia, fiction, non-fiction, quotes, and
poetry. But it also lets you read the books. Good for
research or just reading.

How Stuff Works
- How Stuff Works, as its name implies, tells how
many things work. Naturally, it includes the internet as a
topic. You can search or follow links to topics. From
electronics, to cell phones, to home appliances, to your body,
to things of everyday interest. Pretty informative site.
-
Cool Quiz Trivia
- Cool Quiz Trivia , is more of a fun site, but it
has all kinds of trivia listed by topic. Like 'Dating back to
the 1600's, thermometers were filled with Brandy instead of
mercury.' There are also all kinds of quizzes and puzzles
and humor.
- The Old Farmer's
Almanac
- The Old Farmer's Almanac
has a lot of odds and ends from the printed edition, but
enjoyable. Unfortunately, it seems that its main purpose is
to sell the almanac's printed edition. Use the Site
index at the top of home page to get the links to what
you can find here.
- The Directory
- This directory has links to all kinds of
shopping sites and ISP, by state; but the part of this that I
like is their directory of telephone area codes. From this
page you can pick an area code directly, or from those area
codes within a state. Then, enter the office code (the next
3 digits after the area code) and it will tell you the
town where that office is located and what type of phone lines
it handles (cell phone, competitive carrier, etc).
