The model 0432 Chesapeake & Ohio Quinnimont two-story Depot is based upon the one that stood at Quinnimont,
West Virginia. In addition to the depot, the C&O had yard and engine facilities that served two branches off the
main line. The depot is nestled at the base of the New River gorge, along the C&O mainline, known for hauling train after
train of coal from the mountains of West Virginia. The first-story of the depot was used for passenger and freight service,
while the second story was originally used as a yard office that overlooked the yard at Quinnimont. The yard office,
in the early days, contained a pipe-connected interlocking plant. Later in life, the interlocking plant was removed and converted
to more office space.

The depot is a strong structure that is mounted on a dark gray PVC base to protect it from ground
moisture and provide a sturdy means of attaching extra detail. This structure features a sliding freight door on the
left side of the depot so that one can access the freight and baggage area. On the right side of the depot is the
entrance door to the passenger ticketing and waiting area. The center bay windows form the lower office area of the
depot.

The back of the depot features three doors. The left one enters the passenger waiting room. The right door
enters the baggage and freight area, while the center door opens into a hallway that, with the interior option, runs the length
of the depot. Optional lighting can be added during construction to meet the customers requirements even if interior details
are not desired.
The walls of the depot are built from individually milled redwood strips, glued together with waterproof
glue, to form the board and batten siding. The siding is secured to an interior wall to form a structurally sound wall. For
more support, all of the internal corners and bases of the walls have 3/8" x 3/8" redwood members to reinforce the structure.
All surfaces inside and out (except those between the depot and the PVC) are double stained to seal the surface from moisture.
One of the finest features of this structure is the charm of the hand shingled cedar roof! Each shingle is cut by hand and
attached to a 3/4 inch solid redwood subroof using Titebond II waterproof glue. The solid redwood subroof minimizes the chances
of the roof being crushed, if something or someone should accidentally fall on it. The depot can also be obtained with
tarpaper roofing. They can be obtained in our standard colors (link to Color Selection), or they can be obtained as raw redwood.
The two story serialized C&O depot requires a space that is 24" long and
12" deep. The overall height of the depot is 14 1/2". The height of the single story version of this C&O depot
is 9 1/2".
Single story version is Model 0431. Photo not available at this time.
