There is a Doss Spring located on this track of land later purchased by U.B. Simpson
in 1898 and is near Tater Hill on Dews Road. In the early 1900's U.B. Simpson had a Ram (water pump) installed
in the Doss Spring that supplied water to the Simpson household. Doss also received land grants as early as 1753 around Valentine
Creek and Nixes Creek, which would be near the farms bordered by Easome Road, Wards Road and Dews Road. His neighbors were
Thomas Dillard, Edward Dillard, Amos Richardson, William Owens and James Patey. Charles Doss had a land grant in 1767 for
400 acres on Stinking River and William Doss had 400 acres on Allen's Creek in 1771. Many of the Doss family are buried in
the Doss cemetery and the New Bethel Methodist Church cemetery located on Dews Road.
