- Hesperia Days
American Legion Post 725 helped celebrate Hesperia Days on September
19th and 20th at Hesperia Lake. Members of the Post manned a booth
for the two day event.
The main reason for the Post to attend this event was to get
exposure with the Hesperia townspeople. We gave temporary tattoos to
the kids and talked with the adults about the American Legion and
our programs.
We
also raised money through donations to help our Post support Loma
Linda VA Hospital, Children’s charities, and other programs. Money
raised is used throughout our year to help veterans, schools, and
children.
Thanks go out to the members who donated their time and efforts.
Running the show was 2nd Vice Commander Dennis De Hay. Others
involved were Commander Jim James, 1st Vice Commander Clarence Love,
Jr., Adjutant Stephen Bibler, Sergeant at Arms Charles Keegan,
Marcelo Bauman, Peter Hoover, and Tryone Lett. These comrades
donated over 144 man-hours of labor to erect the booth, talk with
Hesperia residents, and cleanup afterwards. Our thanks go out to you
all.
Next to the Post booth was the U. S. Army booth. Our Post 2nd Vice
Commander Dennis De Hay had a hand in helping the Army setup as
well. He designed and built their carnival game.
Boy Scout Troop 725 was situated next to the U. S. Army booth. They talked to kids and parents about scouting and what the Troop does. In addition, the scouts were selling first aid kits and American flags to raise funds for a summer camp scheduled for 2010.
- Newsletter Costs
Reducing Post spending
The monthly newsletter is getting more costly to produce and distribute. Adjutant Stephen Bibler reports that it costs between $60.00 and $75.00 each month to print and mail out 75 newsletters to our members. for each printed newsletter, it costs between $0.16 and $0.35 per member to print the newsletter. Postage is currently $0.44 per member. The cost of paper, printer toner, and postage will continue to go up. This cost is in addition to normal membership mailing costs.
In order to reduce costs to the Post, we have several options.
1. Use email and the Post website to get the newsletter out.
2. Reduce the mailing costs by only mailing the newsletter to those comrades without access to email or the internet.
The August Newsletter will be the last one mailed out to all members. Members will be asked to provide an email address. Members without computer access will be asked whether they wish to continue receiving the newsletter.
