I got into gardening through fishing , how could that be so you say? Well what does a fisherman
do with all those crappie and bluegill fish entrails after fileting them ? In the Florida heat fish heads do not keep
very long before they stink pretty bad and they make great fertilizer so I dug a hole and I buried them and another hole and
another and before long I had great soil for a garden. I started with a small plot for just a few tomatoe plants and they
grew like crazy. So the small plot grew from 10 by 10 feet to now a full acre and a half of garden and groves of trees. I'm
not the best gardener in the world and most of what I have learned came from reading and tips from friends and farmers. Gardening
and fishing to me seem to go together by learning about nature and being outdoors and making use of all the things nature
has to offer. One trip to the supermarket and a look at todays prices of vegetables and that's all the motivation one needs
to get started in a home garden. I will be posting links here and answer all question or try to best I can on this page.
Just use my e-mail link to send me a question or anything you want to and I'll answer best I can, I have not or ever
will give your e-mail address to anyone. Now I have to plant peas I have soaking but I'll be back tonite to post links
and stuff.
Now some helpful links to gardening.
I like to plant in pots and small containers to start seeds and be able to cover or bring
inside plants during Nov. till late February, because of frost . But I always have plants in the ground year around.
I'm going to try and cover plants in the ground with cardboard boxes incase of a killer frost this year, but I have too
many to cover all of them. I do have microjets irrigation though and it will wash off the light frost when it comes. If you
cannot cover or bring in plants when a frost hits just use a garden hose and a light spray of water to wash the frost off
at sun up if the air temp. is going to be above 34 degrees or higher that day. I have 100's of tomato plant seedlings
and papaya trees if anyone would like some. Just e-mail me or call. They range from seedlings to ready to bear fruit. I grow
some tomatoes in pots upside down from hanging baskets it is a new thing and works really well , last years tomatoes
were awesome good to eat in the baskets and birds did not bother with many. I can easily bring tomatoes inside for frost
or super bad weather fronts. In hanging pots you can also use the very best compost and organic fertilizer and keep the cost
way down compared to broadcasting over a large area.
Starting a compost pile is a must thing to do if you have room in the yard. Links have the
info. to do one. But you can buy compost at walmart or most gardening places. Compost and water as directed with miracle grow
in a pot and you can grow almost anything during the proper growing season.
