Bench Grinder

I have an inexpensive grinder.  After using it a while I decided that I didn't like grit flying all over. After looking at industrial grade machines, here is what I did.

Finished, front shot.

The guards are 3-piece, I made them into a 2-piece,

Then fit the exhaust pipes to the connectors,

Then merge the 2 pipes into 1 pipe,

After testing, and achieving no reduction in the flying grit, raising the guard to just under the rest

Next was to install pipe connectors in the guards,

Then check alignment,

Then route the pipes into a filter box,

I also replaced the inside plastic bushing with an aluminum one.

I used 2 header pipes from a Yamaha motorcycle that I no longer own.  I cut the female end off, welded it to the guard, and slipped the male end into it.  The screws will be safety wired so I can pull the pipes off.

A final upgrade was 2 cast iron rests for a Jet grinder that I got from the local welding shop for under $10 each.
