Hi Corbett Field, the once and future home of the Tucson Toros, is known to many fans as the site of spring-training scenes from the movie “Major League”. It’s an old park that has been renovated numerous times over the years.
When I arrived early on an August morning in 2004, maintenance workers were still cleaning the place up from a softball game the night before. The Arizona Heat of Women’s Pro Fastpitch, a six-team loop that operated that season, were using the facility. A little sod and a little time would be enough to restore the field for baseball use.
With the Tucson Sidewinders moving to Reno, Nev., in 2009, former Toros owner Jay Zucker announced plans to bring back the Toros as a member of the independent Golden League.
