Until 1995, my only taste of Colorado was Stapleton International Airport on the fringes of Denver. I corrected that that summer, and enjoyed every minute of it. Rocky Mountain National Park, the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, the Royal Gorge suspension bridge over the Arkansas River outside Cañon City, the Great Sand Dunes outside Alamosa, the Rio Grande, the Anasazi cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park ... it’s all gorgeous. But how come it had to rain when I drove up Pikes Peak?
