Québec was the first Canadian province I visited. In 1987, I was touring in upstate New York, and I decided to make a day trip to Montréal, the most cosmopolitan city in the province. Many of my subsequent visits have centered on that city, but I have toured other areas, particularly down the St. Lawrence to Québec, the provincial capital, home of an old hilltop fortress and hotbed of French Canadian culture. Someday, I'd like to make it out to the Gaspé peninsula as well as up into the Laurentians.
