Christ Church bell will toll 350
times on Sunday
LINCOLN - On Sunday, Nov. 23, the
tower bell of Christ Church will ring out at noon in support of a healthier
planet. The bell will ring 350 times.
For well over a century, the bell
of Christ Church has not only summoned people to worship, but also has rung out
to warn people of disasters. Now the bell will ring out to warn of climate
change.
"At Christ Church, we are
concerned about the welfare of the whole world," said the Rev. Scott Gunn,
priest-in-charge at Christ Church. "Our church bell becomes proclamation
of our commitment to care for all the gifts that God has given us, especially
this beautiful world."
The bell will be rung 350 time to
signify 350 parts per million, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
"the planet is able to sustain without cataclysmic and irreversible damage
to life" said Gunn in a press release. The level of CO¬² in our atmosphere
is currently 385 and climbing, he said.
Christ Church is located at 1643 Lonsdale
Ave. For more information, contact the Gunn at 725-1920 or by e-mail at sgunn@christchurchlincoln.org.
