Landscapes, still life, portraits and abstract
works. Oil, pastel, serigraphs, watercolors,
pen and ink and etchings. A very versatile woman
both professionally and personally, She was raised in Southern California and gained experience as a production director for
Artisan House, Inc. makers of fine sculpture in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of aerospace technical illustrator
Philip Gwinn – known for his NASA space voyage animations, portraits of jazz musicians and syndicated comics. Clare learned under the watchful eye of her father and studied
art at Glendale Community College in Glendale, California. Clare has been honored by the acquisition of two of her pieces by the Wildlife Way-Station Animal Refuge in Sylmar,
California. A number of her pieces are in various private collections. Clare has long admired the Post-Impressionist and Surrealist artists. Her work translates a sense of
trueness that seems unaffected by technological advancements or computerized technique. Besides an award for Best of Show 1986 Student Exhibition, Glendale Community College and participation
in solo and collaborative shows, she has created commissioned art for wine labels, music album covers, posters and portraits.
Mountain Artists Network and The Arts Council of
Big Bear Valley. Galleries: McCabe & Co. Booksellers
and Ruby Tuesdays Art and Antiques. Recognized
for her modern yet original style. Many of her creations reveal her So-Cal background, delighting the eye at once with vibrant
color and subtle hues. Her varied background is apparent in her free flowing watercolors and pastels, her precise pencil drawings,
pen and ink work and portrait subjects that display a keen emotional intensity which can be developed only through personal
experiences and complete devotion to her work. Other of her works depicting wildlife and landscape scenes rely on her extensive
travels of the Pacific Northwest, Western and Southern states and coastal California. She seems to be able to depict the quiet
place, the small town and the familiar face wherever she goes.
