One of the problems that shows up in Challenge square dancing is the uneveness that surrounds some of the calls and concepts used in square dancing. For example, the call Recycle is done differently depending on the dance program and the formation from which the call is used. Some of the definitions don't necessarily conform to current usage on the dance floor.

For each topic, definitions from various sources are provided, where possible, along with various statments made by callers and dancers on the challenge-sd email forum.

This section attempts to collect as many relevent comments about these topics as possible in order to find some amount of understanding about what is involved in each subject.

Many knowledgeable people don't always agree as to how to dance some of these calls and concepts. The amazing thing about this is that some of these disagreements have been around for a long time and never seem to get settled. Rather than make a decision to do a call one way versus another or to just not use the call at all until agreement is reached, the square dance community just lets the problems go on.
