The following events are located in and around the Laurel, MD, area. There are fund raising venues for local non-profit organizations and some are simply fun or informative! This list is updated on a regular basis.
 
Annual and ongoing events:
  • 14 June - 23 August [every other Tuesday] - Parenting workshops for parents and caregivers of children up to age 8. Location: North Laurel-Savage MultiService Center, 9900 Washington Blvd., Laurel. For more information, Email or call 410-313-1940.

 

June 2011:

  • 10 June - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. - Bike Decorating Contest, Parade and Contest. Laurel Armory - Anderson & Murphy Community Center, 422 Montgomery Street, Laurel.   • 10 June - 12 June - Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games. Cheer for the atheletes! Sports include: Aquatics, Track 'n Field, Bocce, Cheerleading and Softball. For more information and schedule of events, click here and then click on Summer Games box.
  • 11 June - 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - LARS open house; celebrate their newly renovated offices. Fun and food for the whole family!
  • 11 June - 6:00 p.m. doors open; 7:00 p.m. Quarter Auction at Laurel Moose Lodge, 3340 Fort Meade Road, Laurel. Benefits a Parkinson's disease charity. For more information, Email.
  • 12 June - 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. - American Legion Post #60 All-U-Can-Eat breakfast; $6.00
  • 12 June - 8:00 a.m. to noon - Red Cross Blood Drive at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 10755 Scaggsville Road, Laurel. For more information or to schedule an appointment: EUMC or call 1-800-272-2123 and use sponsor code 13952.
  • 14 June - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. - Theft Prevention Seminar at the Prince George's County Police Department District II Community Resource Center, 900 Shoppers Way, Suite R, Largo. The PG Police are hosting this seminar to help educate members of the community about preventing auto theft and preventing theft of valuables from automobiles. A question and answer session will follow. Seating is limited, so RSVP to Sgt. Rodgers at 301-390-2184.
  • 15 June - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. - Dental Health Needs of Individuals with Mental Illness workshop at NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore, 5210 York Road, Baltimore. More information here. Reservations required. Call 410-435-2600.
  • 17 June - 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Jewelry fund raising sale at Laurel Regional Hospital, J Russell Jones Room, 7300 Van Dusen Road, Laurel. Sterling silver, cubic zirconia, jade and stainless-steel jewelry from $9.99 to $149.99. Call 301-572-5636.

  • 29 June - 1 July - Book & Bake Sale at the North Laurel 50+ Center at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel. Fund raising event for the 50+ Center. Donations welcome. The 50+ Center is located inside the North Laurel Community Center.


July 2011:

  • 1 July - submission deadline for articles for Inkwell, ezine of NAMI Howard County. For submission guidelines, contact the editor, Samantha Nickey, via email.
  • 14 July - 16 July - Risking Connection training at Loyola University Conference Center, 8890 McGaw Road, Columbia. The training teaches a relational framework and skills for working with survivors of tramatic experiences. For more information, click here and to register, click here.
  • 30 July - 9:00 a.m. [Poker Run] and 11:30 a.m. [Car/Bike Show] - Fund raiser for children of the fallen at Old Glory Harley Davidson - sponsored by the Hogs & Heroes Foundation.


August 2011:

  • 7 August - PurpleSwim Baltimore - Rocky Point Beach and Park. Fund raising event for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network [PanCAN]. 1- and 2-mile open water courses. Non-swimmers can sponsor a swimmer or participate in a Virtual Swim.
