   General Bayerlein, Commander of the LIII Armee Korps, surrenders to the U.S. Army's "Lucky Seventh" Armored Division in the Ruhr Pocket on 16 April 1945.

Due to copyright constraints, the author provides a selection of photographs obtained from the public domain - the National Archives and Records Administration - US Army Signal Corps and Foreign Records Seized.

The final days of Bayerlein's career - On 16 April 1945, General Bayerlein agreed to an unconditional surrender of his LIII Armee Korps of approximately 30,000 men. The total tally however, according to 7th Armored Division G-2 Intelligence numbers, reached over 300,000. Bayerlein, caught in the Ruhr Pocket, surrounded by US Forces, called further fighting futile and would result in "useless bloodshed."
