Elijah Angell House, 101 Putnam Pike. Come in from the cold, traveler, and join the Johnston Historical Society for candlelight, yuletide music, and refreshments in their restored 1824 farmhouse. The adjacent Johnston History Museum, housed in a replica post-and-beam barn, will also be open. Free.

Smith-Appleby House, 220 Stillwater Road, Smithfield. Members and their guests are invited to ring in the new year with a fun, relaxed supper at the historic Smith-Appleby House. In 1832, Sarah Cornell, an unmarried, pregnant mill-worker, was found hanged in Tiverton, and a married Methodist minister was subsequently charged with her murder. Rory Raven, author of Wicked Conduct: The Murder of Sarah Cornell, will speak about the murder and the two trials that followed. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
