This is a set of images from Shawn's PET scans with some of my "uneducated" commentary.
July 2007
This is the first PET scan since Shawn was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease and prior to any chemotherapy. If you look at the right side of the picture (Shawn's left) you can see the enlarged lymph nodes under Shawn's left arm and lower left side of his neck.
This scan looks a bit different than the other scans since there looks to be quite a bit of radiopharmaceutical in his heart. For various reasons, I don't think it is possible to do an "apples to apples" comparison between the images here. The one thing that the other images do show is that the cancer is still active after chemotherapy.
December 2007
This PET scan was taken after Shawn completed six months of ABVD chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this scan showed that the cancer was still present and active.
March 2008
This PET scan was taken after Shawn completed the initial treatments with the ICE chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this scan showed that the cancer was still present and active. This meant that he could not qualify for the combination high dose ICE chemotherapy with and autologous stem cell transplant.
