A small group from nature coast, lead by
Paul Francios went down to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples on Saturday July 7th, to see the elusive ghost orchid in
full bloom. With the aid of a telescopic lens we were able to get a close up
and personal view of its spectacular bloom. Other sightings were the pond apple,
Annona glabra, which was in fruit, also the strangler fig, ficus auria and the many tillandsia species high up in the trees. On our way back to the main building we saw a few deer coming out to graze.
During our trip to corkscrew we were threatened
with a lightning storm which luckily waited until after we were back on the road unlike our last visit when we all got soaked
to the bone, and had to dodge lightning bolts all the way back to the car!!!!!

A big thanks to Paul for organizing this
