California State Championship: October 21-22nd 2006

Once again the big event of the season occurred and all the usual suspects did their part. FT Joe, Ron Jobbes and San Diego Ric Douglas set the course on Friday. NOCASA’s Doug Burke made the long drive from Concord to see if he could rekindle some of the old North South rivalry. VP Dave Fredrick covered the lunches, the cooking, supplied the bratwurst and still managed to run the course. Tim McMurray supplied the cases of drinks, which were so desperately needed in the 85-degree Santa Ana weather. After the first day Nevada’s Terry DePew had a commanding 46/56 in the Spring Class and Joe Haddad held slim two-point lead over mentor Doug Miller and newcomer Matt Kellerman with 50/56. The sixteen shooter turnout Saturday picked up to eighteen by Sunday with the arrival of Argen Wong and Kenny Cadtrell. Joe Haddad held off a strong charge by Doug Miller to take the Championship. Terry DePew took the high visitor trophy with Steve Moore taking the Piston Championship.

Kudos for Ric Douglas and his $250 total, GAMO field target rig. It can be done and it and meaty kill zones would be a great combination for new shooters. Doug Burke has a present for Scott Rich. Terry DePew is amazing, we may need to see if he has a pulse.

For the old timers, "Little James Burciaga" now Sergeant Burciaga was awarded the Bronze Star, Congratulations on a job well done.
