Brief history

Nanotechnology causes a revolution in health care, allowing almost any damage to a body to be healed. Psychotherapy has been revolutionized as well, and crime rates are very low, with almost no violent crime. Artificial Intelligence has been created and there are many AIs that think, one of which is in a rocket heading to Alpha Centari. In fact, the creation of the mission of Alpha Centari is responsible for the advancement of most of the new technology. The Internet has been transformed into LitVid, encompassing all media.

Some things have been lost. Paper napkins are a rare luxury. Owning your own vehicle is expensive, and mass transit is used by almost everyone, even the upper middle class.

Glossary

• Arbeiter - robotic machine with limited AI.
• Binary Millennium - December 31, 2047.
• Combs - Massive buildings housing rich and elite people along the west coast. Combs are topped with mirrors that redirect the sunlight to the parts of the city that are in the shade.
• Fap - (slang) approximately ‘Fuck'.
• Handed - Actors who sell their digital image rights and reap residuals.
• Hellcrown - A device that fits over the head, causing a person to experience everything they've done bad in their lives again, as a form of punishment. Usually administered by a Selector.
• Home manager - computer with limited AI to control a house or apartment. Handles entry, messages.
• Jiltz - A PD action
• LitVid - Internet and Television combined; Literature and Video.
• Lobe Sod - someone who rents out the use of their brain for computer usage.
• Nanotechnology - the use of molecule sized machines to make or remake objects or people.
• Natural - a person who doesn't need therapy.
• PD - Public Defender, what is now the police.
• Selector - vigilantes that attempt to punish those they feel have excaped PD justice.
• Shady - A person the lives in the shade of the Combs; lowerclass
• Slaveways - highways that take control of vehicles that drive on them.
• Therapied - a person who has gotten mental therapy.
• Thinker - Advanced form of AI, computer intelligence.
• Transform - a person who has made changes to their body with medical procedures, usually nanotechnology. Some transforms are for adaptation to hostile environments (ex.: space), others for aesthetic reasons.
• Tro shink - (slang) very; much
• Untherapied - lower class citizen, lacking mental therapy, thus unfit for many jobs.
