My wife Clara Jane Clark Armitage passed away on June 15th , 2009 during a long planned trip. The trip was to include a double cruise to and from Alaska and visits to long time friends along the way. We only got to see the Hoffmans.
Clara Jane was a wonderful wife who took good care of me and our children. We will miss her very much.
Hello, everyone. I am a retired chemistry professor from Thiel College. I have many interests. This mustang has been occupying much of my time. Here it is finally “done” after 8 years of effort. Click the photo for its story. I've been looking for a new project but I don't want something as complex as the mustang. Click here to see what I have picked. I also have written a few instrument simulator programs. Click the link to learn about these programs.

and maybe not so long.
This is our cat.

So not just our kids have pets.
I am using Linux (Kubuntu) and OpenOffice for most of my computing needs as I am finding Windows frustrating. Kubuntu is a verison of Ubuntu that uses KDE instead of Gnome. I have become accustomed to KDE and like it. So far Kubuntu is meeting my needs. I still use Windows for some speciality programs. A Delorme map program and a ballistics program have been a problem for me and wine. Wine allows some Windows programs to run in Linux. I no longer use NDO as it is just too much trouble to get it to run on fast computers and Linux.
For entertainment I have found a program called Vistapro . It enables you to render landscapes as 3D drawings from USGS data. Many files are included with the program and it is available in a DOS version and a Windows version. Click the link above for more information and some graphics. The data files for the surface of Mars are particularly interesting to me especially with Pathfinder there and now the marsrovers Spirit and Opportunity.
My hobbies include model railroads (N gauge), Muzzle-loading rifle building and shooting. My wife enjoyed all sorts of plants but really enjoyed growing tropical plants like crepe myrtle, plumeria, and white ginger.. In western Pennsylvania this is somewhat of a challenge. :) I hope I can keep them going by nmyself. I've included a few others in the pictures below also.
