"COME APART AND REST AWHILE." For fathers today, that thought can seem almost unattainable.
Amid the bombardment of email, cell phones and television, it can be too easy to miss the voices of children and wives
trying to communicate their needs and hopes for our time and attention. It is even easier to miss the voice of God in
the midst of our busy world. We need "time apart" to listen to Him, to recieve His help and direction for all the tasks that
wait back in "real time."
JESUS WAS TALKING TO HIS DISCIPLES when He said, "Come apart." The disciples
also were surrounded by conflicting demands -- their commitment to Christ, the needs of their families, the pressure of public
opinion. Jesus knew that only by taking time with Him, could they learn His answers to their problems, and find the strength
and wisdom to carry them out. If the disciples who walked daily with Christ needed "time apart," how much more do we need
it to be the kind of fathers and husbands and Christians He wants to make us?
JUST A FEW MINUTES A DAY -- IT MIGHT BE AT YOUR DESK DURING COFFEE BREAK,
waiting in the car for the kids after practice, or taking a moment before switching on the television. There is always some
time and place when we can let Him drop His word into a quiet corner of our hearts, where it will stay, bringing calm in times
of stress and guidance in times of uncertainty.
In a busy world, He calls you to take "time apart" to hear His voice.
The following are taken from the book TIME APART for FATHERS from Access
Publishing. These are readings taken from writers (past and present) who have experienced the conflicting demands of life.
They share words of encouragement and guidance for daily life.
