Perry DeMay's Service to the Community
My name is Anthony
“Perry” DeMay and I am 42 years old. I am married and I have four children. I was born in Hampton Virginia and
moved to this area where I attended High School at Huguenot High School in Bon Air.
In August, 1983, I
enlisted in the United States Air Force because I believed in serving my country. In the Air Force
I received my first experience in public safety, serving as a security specialist in the Air Force Security Police Unit. I
served throughout the US and the United Kingdom, gaining a wide variety of experiences. I received an honorable
discharge from active duty in March of 1986.
- I moved into the private security sector as a bankcard fraud investigator with
Central Fidelity Bank. I assisted in the investigation of credit card and mail order fraud against customer accounts.
- In March of 1988, I was hired by the Virginia Department
of Corrections as a Corrections Officer at the Powhatan Correctional Facility in Powhatan,

that the citizens of the community, staff and inmates remained safe from the future criminal actions of others.
- In February of 1989, I was hired by the Richmond
City Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. I monitored the inmate
population inside of the Richmond City
Jail and worked with inmates in the community while they performed general grounds keeping duties in the local city cemetery
and city owned property. I served on the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team and responded to several disturbances involving
inmate uprisings in the jail.
- In September of 1990, I was hired by the Chesterfield
County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. I served the citizens
of Chesterfield County
faithfully during my employment with the Sheriff’s Office. I worked in the Jail, Transportation Section, Courts and
Sheriff’s Inmate Work Force Program. I served as a field-training deputy and defensive tactics instructor in the Sheriff’s
Training Academy.
I also served on the Sheriff’s Special Operations Response Team.
- In August of 1996, I was hired as a Park Ranger for the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation,
Division of State Parks. I was assigned to Pocahontas State
Park as a Conservation Officer where I performed law enforcement activities for Virginia State Parks.
- In 2000, I was promoted to the position of Chief Ranger at Pocahontas State Park. I currently fill this
position with the Division of State Parks. As Chief Ranger I,
- Supervise law enforcement operations and staff at the park.
- Manage parklands, environmental education and recreational programs.
- Manage volunteers that serve our park as well as actively recruit individuals and groups into the volunteer
system.
- Insure park operations and projects are performed within budget.
- Prepare grants for obtaining alternative funding sources for projects and equipment utilized in the park.
- Provide field-training, firearms instruction, and instruct current and future criminal justice personnel for
the Cardinal Criminal Justice
Academy in Salem, Virginia and other criminal justice agencies in the Commonweatlh.
- In August 2006, I graduated from John
Tyler Community College with
an Associate of Applied Science Degree with a major in Police Science. I graduated with honors and received the award of Magna
Cum Laude. I am currently enrolled in the University of Phoenix’s Bachelors of Science program with a major in Criminal Justice Administration.
