| 1985 Regular Season: Redskins (27) vs. Giants (10) - MNF |
| Quality: Excellent |
| When Coach Gibbs gave his return press conference in 2004, he mentioned one of his most enduring memories from his first tenure. Although he remembered the game being from 1984, it was actually this game he was referring to. Gibbs recalls how the Skins were in desperate straits early in the season. At 1-3, they desperately needed a win. He told the team, "If you have anything to give to the Redskins, you need to give it tonight. We're in trouble." He remembered looking into the eyes of a lot of those old Skins and seeing tears. "That's what it takes," Gibbs said in 2004, when asked what kind of team he needed to turn things around.
This game begins with that portion of the 2004 press conference, then fades into the game itself. The quality of this game is fantastic, and the spirited crowd at RFK buoys the Redskins on to a dominant victory. Theismann had been struggling greatly, and Riggins was on his last legs, but both Riggins and Rogers gain 100 yards on the day, and Theismann has a great game, rushing for one touchdown. This game also features rookie Gary Clark catching a rare pass from Joe Theismann. This is a Monday Night Football game, featuring Joe Namath, Frank Gifford and O.J. Simpson in the booth. |
