| 1991 Regular Season: Redskins (17) vs. Giants (13) in Meadowlands |
| Quality: Very Good |
| This is truly a fantastic game, a "Gut Check" game that legitimizes the Redskins season at this point. The Skins come in at 7-0, yet they are told that the record means nothing if they can't beat the Giants, a team they'd lost to 6 straight times and 9 out of the last 10!
The New York crowd is insanely loud as the Giants totally dominate the first half 13-0. But the Giants blew some opportunities to get touchdowns instead of field goals, and the 'Skins make them pay. An incredibly gutsy 84-yard drive in the third quarter puts the Redskins within 6 points as they convert on many huge third down plays amidst the intense noise of the Meadowlands. The defense suddenly gets fired up and stuffs the Giants for the rest of the game, and Clark catches a long bomb - just like one he dropped in the first half - to get the lead. This is Ray Handley's first year as the coach of the Giants, and after this game, the Redskins know the Super Bowl is theirs for the taking. |
