"The Leather Era" - 1940s-Era Games
Quality: Varies with each game. First game is "Excellent," next two are "Good," final game is "Fair"
This DVD is a really great glimpse into the Redskins' distant pass, and a great chance to see Sammy Baugh pass, punt, and play defensive back (the guy was amazing). It contains four games that came from film sources. Each game had all of its huddles edited out on the original film, so each only lasts about 30 minutes. All plays are here, however, with the exception of a couple in the final game that are missing from an early drive.

The first game is the gem of this collection. It's the first game of the 1948 season against the Steelers at Griffith Stadium (pre-RFK days). The Redskins win 14-10, and the quality of this is just amazing. It was taken from a master source that someone found at a TV station they used to work for. The next two games are from 1944 and 1945 against the Cleveland Rams (yes, I said "Cleveland"). One is for the NFL Championship, which the Redskins sadly lose by a point. The other features audio commentary that was added years later, but that still sounds very believable and gives you great insight into the plays, the names of the players, etc.

The final game is the worst beating the Skins ever took, the 73-0 loss to Chicago in the 1940 NFL Championship game. This one is in black and white, but it probably should've been all in black. Interesting to watch, though. All the other games were silent, but I've added 40s-era music behind them to give me something to listen to when watching.
