Our first big adventure...."Peter and Me"
|
 |
|
With the support of many friends, and all of the encouragment to go along
with it, I signed up for rally classes in February 2007. Seven months later, I entered our first rally
trials. In three trials, we had three legs and my very first title that I put on a dog!!

"Ian" has always been a very difficult dog. He is also smart
and quite stubborn. At age 7, I decided that he was ready to give basic obedience a whirl. Within 4
months, he passed his basics with flying colors and also passed his CGC and TT. Then the rally classes began.
After several months, I entered his first trials, March 2008 at WPKA. He NQ'd the first
day but received his first leg with a score of 86. Then after that, it was downhill..many NQ's and I finally was forced
to ask to be dismissed. Entered in trials in October 2008, I asked for help from Linda Scopa, whose expertise is in
performance. Linda was able to get a second leg, with a score of 72....but it was a leg. The next day was NQ.
So for the next several months, I went to Linda's training center and she and Ian worked on his focusing skills. Finally
on June 6, 2009, we entered at WCOTC and Ian earned his 3rd leg and title with a score of 82. Skip and I thank Linda
for her perservence with the stubborn old boy, giving the meaning of "teaching an old dog..." a whole different perspective.
We thank Linda.....
