| This site is dedicated to the Jewish convert and those who either have decided to convert or are thinking about it On June 14, 2002, I went before a Bet Din and was welcomed into the Jewish community as a Jew. While my conversion took about a year and a half, my journey began about a year earlier. In June of 1999 I married a Jewish woman. That act, along with two other events, set in motion my journey toward Judaism. In 2000 the current events in Israel and the disputed territories began. As each act of terrorism was plastered over the news media, I began to realize that I lacked a complete understanding of what was going on, so I made it a point to find out the truth. During my research, I found that the media painted a very bias picture against Israel and that its very survival was in doubt. I have had a strong respect and fondness for Israel since the events that took place during the Munich Olympics and the Yom Kipper Wars. I made a vow that I would always support Israel and the first twinges of conversion entered my mind. In the spring of 2001, My wife and I, along with her family, went to a bar mitzvah in Boston. From the moment I entered the synagogue, I felt like I had returned home. I never went looking for religion but it came looking for me. On the way back to Virginia, I told my wife that I wanted to convert. Conversion is a long and very enjoyable experience that is filled with many emotional up and downs. It is with out a doubt the third most enjoyable event in my life. Marrying a Jewish woman was the first. Finding out my wife was going to have twins was the second Without the first, I would have never experienced the second or the third |
