Georg Müller
Göttingen, Germany

Grave marker in the Stadtfriedhof (city cemetery).

Müller, a profound influence in the development of psychology, founded the experimental laboratory at the University of Göttingen. Müller assumed full time duties at Göttingen in 1881, and remained at the University for 40 years. He died in 1934.

Göttingen is conveniently reached by rail (near Hannover) or automobile. From the train station, it is an easy walk to the Stadtfriedhof. Exit the station toward the city center and turn right. Walk to the first major intersection and turn right onto Groner Landstrasse. The cemetery is a few minutes’ walk along this street. I was unable to locate a graves registry. On entering this large cemetery, turn only slightly to the left, and progress straight back to the far wall, turning right at the final choice point. Müller’s stone stands along this path on the right side, facing the path. The stone’s inscription is nearly obliterated.

Although it is not easy to locate Müller’s stone, one will be entertained and amazed while searching by the large number of notables buried here. The long and distinguished history of the University of Göttingen has yielded a rich crop of deceased.
