Burgessville, Ohio

I need guidance to historical sources about Burgessville and Hamlin
villages, the "S & M. C. Mining Company," (Straitsville & Monday Creek) and, in general, the Gore area of Falls-Gore
Township in Hocking County, Ohio circa 1860 through 1900. (The
1876 plat map is generously made available by Robert Brown through HockingGen).

A generous Burgess researcher has helped me document Richard Burgess' military service! See Burgess Family Documents for the evidence.
Elizabeth Taylor Burgess
She was the daughter of Thomas Taylor and Mary Ann Owens, both of Virginia, and sister
of William Alexander Taylor. Elizabeth was born about 1827 in Perry County, Ohio.
She married Andrew Jackson Burgess in 1845, and their family was listed in the 1850 and
1860 Hocking County censuses. In 1867, Jack married Lydia Ann (Hartman) Morehead. Elizabeth is the only wife mentioned
in the 1883 Hocking history, published 15 years after Jack and Lydia married. I haven't found anything about Elizabeth after
1860. Did she die? Did they divorce? Was Jack a bigamist? For more information on this conundrum, see the Burgess Family History page

Parents of
Emma Angeline Bright
(1877-1952)
According to her death certificate and obituary, Emma was the daughter
of Wesley Bright and Mary Adaline (Bond) Pierson. According to the Glass Family Bible, she was born near Rockbridge, Laurel,
Hocking, Ohio. I found a Wesley Bright on the 1870 census in Joseph and Katherine Bright's household in Marion Township. I
cannot find Wesley and Mary's family on the 1880 census, although I found a Wesley Bright family with wife Malinda and
no Emma in Marion Township. I'm not having much luck finding Mary Bond, either alone or in her father Leonard's household
(from her death certificate). Emma's birth is not in the Hocking birth records. Were Wesley and Mary married? Were there 2
Wesley Brights in Hocking during the 1870's?
Logan, Ohio School

This class picture belonged to Sarah Lena Glass. My Mom has looked
and looked, but does not recognize anyone in the photo. The school should be in Logan, Ohio. Anyone recognize
it?
