Village
Theatre
I've been playing for Village since
shortly after I moved to the
Seattle area. Over that time, I've been lucky to be part of many
wonderful productions, from golden oldies like Oklahoma!, Brigadoon, and Hello Dolly to
newer works like The
Secret Garden (my particular favorite -- if you haven't
heard this musical yet, you should), and even premieres of brand-spanking-new
works like Making Tracks,
Once
Upon a Time in New Jersey, Little Women and Stunt Girl.
I began serving as concertmaster with their 2007-08 production of Little Women, and
will be doing so again for Meet Me in St. Louis this winter ('09). I
will also be the sole violin in Chasing
Nicolette.
More information can be found at the Village Theatre website.

Tacoma
Symphony
Over the decade or so that I've been
playing for Tacoma, the
orchestra has really grown by leaps and bounds musically. It now
regularly takes on the warhorses with confidence and aplomb. This
season, many great works are programmed, including Mahler's Symphony
no. 1, Carmina Burana,
The
Creation,
Bruch's Concerto for Viola and Clarinet (there's one you'd definitely
better catch now if you want to hear it before you renew your driver's
license again), and an Andrew Lloyd Webber program. If you
haven't gone to a concert in the last several years, it's time to
update your mental image!
I am a contract player with Tacoma and don't usually play the entire
season, but I tend to play most of the major classical series and at
least some of the pops.
More information can be found at the Tacoma
Symphony website.

Delirium Fix
Delirium Fix, formerly known as
Rook, has alas gone the way
of all bands. Or -- all right -- not all bands, just 98% of them.
However, before its glorious nuclear implosion, it managed to produce
what I will modestly say is a damn good album: Like a Train on Fire in Night Sky.
I describe the genre as "heavy world rock," because nobody else has
come up with a better one, and I can be heard playing acoustic and
electric violin as well as singiing backup vocals. The other notable
not-what-you-hear-every-day-in-a-rock-band aspect: bagpipes! The album
can be purchased through iTunes or CDBaby.
Samples are available at the websites!
Although the website is not currently being maintained, you can find
out more about Delirium Fix and Rook here.

The Makedonians
This is a near-Eastern folk
band that has been going for
over twenty years. I joined in 1998. At the moment gigs have slowed
down (they tend to go in cycles, like climate patterns), but there are
still copies of the albums available. To get the one I played for, Folklor, it looks
like you'll have to contact Diz (info available at the Makedonians
website). A few copies of the previous release, Tzaz,
however, are available through an Amazon.com search. In the Maks, I
play violin, sing (including a cappella singing wiith Ritza, the Maks'
vocal offshoot), and am occasionally known to flail hopelessly
at
a mandolin in that one crazy song. |
