ACTION ITEM - September 13, 2006

13 September 2006

Dear Friends,

Things are heating up as we approach the Legislature’s return to session and the November elections! This posting is to alert you to PTCC Action Item #2 and also contains a brief update that I’m sure will be of interest to you.

Last week the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations (PCTA) sent a personalized letter to every member of the House asking them whether or not they will co-sponsor HB2929, the Plan For Pennsylvania’s Future, and letting them know that their responses will be compiled in a legislative "report card" to be published and sent to the voters and to the PCTA’s membership prior to the election. With your help in response to our first Action Item that was issued on August 26 we hope to convince a majority of the Representatives to co-sponsor this legislation for the benefit of all Pennsylvania taxpayers and schoolchildren. If you have not yet responded to action item #1, please do so as soon as possible. Information on this action item is available below this posting.

Today’s Action Item. Please complete an individual petition that indicates your support for the Plan For Pennsylvania’s Future. The petitions are being collected by York County Representative Stan Saylor, a co-sponsor of the legislation. Since it is an individual petition, all members of your family who are of voting age can each sign one and you are further encouraged to print a few copies and pass them along to your friends, family, and co-workers. All petitions can be sent in one envelope to save postage, or you can fax completed petitions to the number provided on the petition. We are hoping to inundate Representative Saylor with thousands of these petitions that he can use to show taxpayer support when the bill reaches the House floor for debate. Please help in this effort to achieve passage of this vital legislation. You can download the petition as a PDF document here.

I’m sure that by now most of you have tried the Act 1 calculator to see the amount of property tax “relief” that this bogus legislation does not provide. As a contrast to the results from the Act 1 calculator, there is posted on this website a new Excel calculator that will show you your total school tax liability under the provisions of the Plan For Pennsylvania’s Future. As with the previous calculator, simply fill in the boxes on the left side of the page and your results will be displayed on the right. If you’ve had any doubts about supporting the Plan For Pennsylvania’s Future, this will certainly convince you! Please feel free to distribute this calculator to anyone who might be interested. Click here to see the calculator. Our thanks to Rick Ritter of the Coatesville Taxpayers Alliance for researching and building this calculator.

That’s all for now. PLEASE respond to this current Action Item and please forward this website to anyone in your address book who may be willing to support this effort. With your continuing help and support we WILL get this goal accomplished for the benefit of all residents of Pennsylvania.
