Look over there, by the edge of the woods.
Awake from his nap and straight to the birdfeeder…oh yes, he’s very eager.
His mission and purpose I’m sure… is to get all he can at the neighborhood store.
I think I’ll step back and shut the door!
Waiting his turn Chip yells, ”where’s Dale?” (holding my breath, wishing chip wouldn’t yell.)
Don’t scare the skunk let him have his fill.
Lets enjoy this moment, take in the view sitting quietly and being still.
He’ll go back to the woods when he‘s done. Then you both can have some fun.!
I hear the earth drinking the snow as it melts, the first signs of spring are meant to be felt.
I’m on the lookout for the first flower of spring.
Will I spot it today ? Will it come out to play?
I know of one soon to arrive and always the most determined to survive.
A deserving yellow blossom, you know it by name… gets pulled up and cursed. Don’t wish it away.
I’m going to tell you why they always stay…..
Perfect are the blossoms that share gifts of many, now I don’t question why there’s plenty.
Winter was long and so was your nap. Enough of that crap.
Your dinners were heavy and the nights were long.
So when you see the bright yellow flowers in your yard smile.
Go get a basket and pick for a while.
Hurry now get in the sun. Come on smile isn’t this a lot of fun?
The message of this flower is clear, “you can’t get rid of me, cuz you need me near”.
Bitters and compounds that clean out the system, helping the body get fit for the season.
A few leaves in salad or some in your soup…didn’t want you out of the loop.
If you feel a desire to be creative and put some away…I’ll share a treat I made one day….
I heard giggling off to the side, it got my attention and my eyes opened wide.
What did I see ?
I saw …a faerie two or three..
One came closer and whispered to me…a potion unnamed, a tonic or tea.
Mix it together, put it on the shelf for awhile and guarantee…
if you make it just right it will make you smile like me.
5cups of petals picked after the dew (it doesn’t hurt to add an extra few).
To this 5cups of sugar will sweeten the brew. Yeast and a lemon please cut it twice. Water makes this tonic whole, 8 cups
will do I was told…stir and cover this bubbling mix.. In ½ a fortnight it needs to be strained and then put away far out of
sight.
This tonic is made for a time of year when thoughts of spring faeries fill you with cheer!
