Photographs -- June 1998

Driving Southeast into the village of Ciemniewko

A farmhouse in Ciemniewko. The building on the left is a bus stop.

This is the center of town with the church in the background. The Sona River runs under the bridge.

The Church in Ciemniewko.

A Ciemniewko farmer, this photo was taken with his permission to post it on the web. He gave much of the information needed for these photographs. His grandmother who died in 1956 told him of the folwark (manorial farm) that used to be in the village.

This is the village of Ciemniewo, which is southeast of Ciemniewko.

This picture was taken from the road which curves south to east. This is the eastern side side of the road, in Ciemniewo.

The road back to Ciemniewko.

A clover field in Ciemniewo.

These are the some of the old buildings still standing in Ciemniewko.

More buildings in the same area--the beige building holds the milk production.

The mound in the center of the picture (between the trees) is the remnants of the old folwark in Ciemniewko.

A closer view of the old foundation of the folwark.

This is the church bell tower in Ciemniewko.

A plaque on the church reads:

Votive Offering of Gratitude to God

for six centuries of existence of the

Ciemniewko Parish

Grateful Parishoners

The wooden stake at left is for the rememberance of former missions taken to the shrine at Czestochowa in Jasna Gora. February 20, 1968 and February 11-19, 1976.

(translation -- R. Lewandowski)

The old folwark is to the right of this potato field.

The Sona River. The mill was standing here. This was the former gathering place and center of the village.

Same as above, by the Sona River.

Ciemniewko.

Driving west, this road curves north.

A journey's end. Leaving the town of Ciemniewko and heading back to Ciechanow.
