| Hello there! |
Only 5 miles from Portsmouth, I ran across this property in 1993, when looking for a country home.
The home is on 30 acres, of mostly hillside forest area. I have many tree species, including a variety of old Oak, Poplar,
Sycamore, Hickory and Walnut.
A pie slice shaped plot of land, nestled in the ridges, with a southern exposure. It's at
the end of Crain Hollow Rd. The fork of Crain creek is where my property begins on the south end, with creeks bordering
on my east and west side all the way up to the top and just over the north 300 ft. ridge.
I love the peaceful seclusion
this site provides.
It also provides a sanctuary for wildlife, including White Tail Deer, Wild Turkeys, Grouse, Squirels,
Rabbits, Fox and many bird species. There are many other critters and varmints also.

| A story below, about the Cardinal |
In 2001, my baby brother Bruce had suddenly died at the VA Hospital. My other
brother, Mick, came back from California to attend the Funeral, etc., and was staying with me for awhile. He's a computer
whiz and since I was an Internet Rookie, was showing me some things to improve my computer. As we began working at the computer,
a male Cardinal appeared at my portal window and began pecking on the window and looking in. It continued doing this all day
long. We joked that this was Bruce, wanting to join in on the fun. It returned persistently for the next couple of days, while
he was teaching me. Mick went back home, and the bird slacked off on its visits to my window. I laid in bed one night and
it came to me that Bruce, during one of his visits while sitting on my front porch, had told me how beautiful he thought the
male Cardinals were. An eerie, yet comfortable feeling came over me. Shortly thereafter, one morning I heard a pecking at
a window on the opposite side of my home. I opened the door to that room to find another male Cardinal doing this. I finally
realized they were seeing their reflection in the window, thinking it was another male, and just trying to protect their territory.
Mystery
solved, but I still prefer to think it was Bruce.
