   13. Mattern, Johann Christian (*1722 Böhl, Pfalz +1722 Böhl, Pfalz)

Notes:
Baker, and town official (Anwalt-Schultheiss) since 1729. His brother-in-law was the Augustinian priest Burkhardus Lüdecke, priest in Böhl from 1699 to 1704, who performed his wedding. His two sons Johann *6 Nov 1712 and Johann Jakob *18 Apr 1713 could not have been born in such a short timespan. Perhaps the first was baptised some time after his birth. Other possible explanations, including whether one of the two was an adoptive son, could not be proven. This is also true for the sons Johann Anton *20 Sep 1703 and Johann Conrad *12 Jan 1704. It is to be noted that immediately thereafter, his brother-in-law Father Burkhardus Lüdecke was forced to return to his monastery due to an "immoral way of life".

Notes:
Dorfmeister 1691/92, farmer. An almost hostile relationship developed between him and his two sons from his first marriage. Supposedly he only entered into second marriage with a widow with two children from Hochdorf because his two sons didn't help him sufficiently. At the preparation of his will on 2 Mar 1719, his age was given as 76 years. In twelve pages of depositions he issued new accusations against his two sons and arranged that his second wife and his daughter from this marriage would get a larger portion of the inheritance. Thomas repeatedly referred to himself as old and disabled, but he outlived his son Matthäus and also his second wife. He died at the old age of about 90 years.

Married
Children:
    1. Mattern, Thomas (*1644 +1735 Böhl, Pfalz)
    2. Mattern, Anna Margret (*1645 +1677)
    3. Mattern, Apollonia (*1647 +1677)

    6. Mattern, Johann Peter (*1652 Böhl, Pfalz +1727 Böhl, Pfalz)

Notes:
Progenitor of the Böhl Matterns. His name is also written Hanß Adam and his last name is written Matern in the Latin church records of Böhl. He was made a citizen in Böhl in 1653. Dorfmeister 1654/55. He lived in the Kirchgasse next to Felix Schmaltz and Hans Adam Gummersheim. At least the older children of Hans Adam were Catholic, even though Böhl was almost exclusively Reformed. He probably came from the Bishopric of Speyer, where among others Geinsheim, Heiligenstein, and the city of Speyer had Mat(t)ern families already in the 16th century. His given name Adam also indicates he was probably baptized Catholic.

In an assessment list of 28 Jul 1648, among the town residents of Heiligenstein (now Römerberg) are listed under Nr. 15: Hanß Materns sons Hanß Adam lives in Speyer and Hans Michel is a preaching monk.

After his death, an inventory of his possessions was written and his six living descendants were listed at the end as Thomas, Anna Margret, Apollonia, Joh. Michael, Hans Adam and Joh. Peter.
