Eileen Saint Lauren grew up in a small, two-red-light town in South Mississippi called Petal--The Friendly
City. Her Momma was a Sunday School teacher and her Daddy a Carpenter. Growing
up, the only entertainment, social or otherwise, St. Lauren was afforded was going to church on Sunday and to town
on Saturday. And during the weekdays, visiting her neighbors, the sick and dying, the mental institutions and city
jails along with the old folks homes was something she and her folks did because "the Lord said it was the right thing
to do." For years, she thought all those strangers were somehow related to her. Her Momma taught her to love everyone, pray
for the sick and dying, and no matter what a body had done, to show mercy and forgiveness. She remembers she and her
momma spending many days and nights by the side of a dying strangers, giving them their last sip of water or last
meal because they had no one else to show them unconditional love.
St. Lauren was an intuitive,
compassionate child who learned early on that people would tell her anything and everything about their lives. She believes
that simply listening to their stories with compassion served as the first step to her becoming a writer. She believes
that writing is her calling in life.
She
likes to talk, laugh, smile, observe people, read, write, pray, cook, shop, collect art, listen to music, and travel.
