My Biography

I was born in the Bronx, which if you don't know is a borough of New York City and spent my teen years living in Yonkers, NY. After a year in Viet Nam and my subsequent discharge from the US Navy in 1968 I worked for the Homelite Company in Port Chester, New York as a small engine laboratory technician. A year later I was running an engine rebuilding business in northern New Jersey. Then I relocated to Orlando, Florida  where I taught Motorcycle Mechanics for 8 years, first in a VoTech center and finally in a High School. During this time I also competed as a motorcycle racer - Motocross  while I was in the Northeast and Road Racing after moving to Florida. In 1982 I decided to see the world so I sold my house in Winter Park, Florida and went sailing. During the following 20 years I traveled around Florida and the US East coast, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and eventually Europe. In 1995 I started working for the Ted Hood company at their Little Harbor yacht refit yard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In those days I worked from April through November and sailed the rest of the year. After Ted sold Little Harbor to the Hinckley Company I decided go out on my own which brings us to the present. - Bill Elvey
