Studs Wearing Studs...to run!January 25, 2009-10AM

February 21-Dennis Bray became the 10th ice-runner & on February 16, Gayle Porcelli, Randy Kelley, Dan Courneene, and Jeff Rushbee were added to the list of those who've 'run the island'. Check out the updated photos...

Bill Mcdowell, Rob Wray, Jon Mulholland, Sherod Luscombe, & Willy Watson decided to test the concept on a run around Valcour Island. The temperatures hovered around 12 degrees and there was a brisk wind out of the south west with sunny skies; and the cleats performed admirably. It was a 6.6 mile run that took about an hour and was well worth the effort. The terrain was a mixture of glare ice and hard-packed snow and a few areas had choppy ice that had to be walked.

Trying different runs is invigorating and running with partners makes the drudgery of winter pass more quickly. The worst part is the moaning that precedes the actual run, but the encouragement received from the many ice-fisherman, who seemed undaunted by the elements, put the stamp of validity on what by some seemed to be an insane adventure. Runners are often viewed as having a screw loose, but the sheet metal screws remained intact and gave such sure footing that none of the participants could determine if there was a screw loose at all!
