Aethellis has the
soaring majesty of classic symphonic rock and incorporates a
contemporary rhythmic feel.
The
Aethellis
album was spearheaded and recorded in 2002/2003
by classically trained keyboardist/vocalist/hack guitarist/Narcissist
Ellsworth Hall and has many influences including rock,
classical, synth pop,
funk, jazz
and even hip-hop. This either represents wide tastes or an inability to
focus.
He
puts this genre wanderlust to good use in his soundtrack work
with Ellsounds.
Album tracks, other originals and classic rock/progressive
rock
covers are performed live with several cohorts from previous
bands including Mark Van Natta and Erik Marks.
"Aethellis is a mix of all the best things available in the prog
world."-
"...Symphonic Rock that
transmits an optimism beyond the common..." - Descubre La Caja Pandora
"AETHELLIS' music is more like a
cross between Tony BANKS,
Alan PARSONS and Rick WAKEMAN" - Lise
(Hibou), The Prog Archives
Drum
tracks are currently being put down for the album's title track,
"Northumbria." A sample of this song should be available online in March.
Recording is ongoing and will feature Dyan Brown
(see blog)
on vocals
along
with Mark Van Natta on guitar and vocals. Ellsworth will again be doing
the keyboards, vocals, and guitar.
Bassist
Erik Marks is also scheduled to appear. Completion
is
tentatively set for Spring 2010 if Ellsworth gets off his duff.

The video version of the song "Hubris"
differs somewhat from the album version, features Frances Swarthington,
footage shot by Cheryl Hall and quirky band members attempting to synch
to the music. The song remained in the Broadjam.com
Progressive Rock Top 10 chart for 6 months,
debuting at #1 on March 23, 2003. It also appeared in the Rock (#7),
Maryland (#1) and Mid-Atlantic (#5) Top 10 charts. The new "Saint Augustus"
video is due out in 2010.
