"STOP THE HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! ! (...literally!)":

Archive #2.

Toll collecting only causes traffic backups and bottle necks, besides the road should have been paid off long ago. The same goes for the AC Exp the road has been paid for and if you work in AC it cost an arm and a leg to use it. I thought the gas taxes were used to road repair, where is all that money going.

The taxes the hard working people of New Jersey pay, are to fund the MAINTENANCE of our state, not to be put into frivolous programs and giveaways.

Toll booths cause traffic jams or slow downs which are a waste of fuel and produce more pollution of our air.

The parkway is an easy way to get to and from places and I don't feel we need to pay the money we pay! We pay enough in taxes and other costs I think this is one cost we can do away with!

Tolls cause traffic congestion and it is very hard to find the lane that you need to be lined up with when you are approaching the toll booth. Also lots of pollution while you are waiting to pass through.

Eliminating tolls on the GSP will not significantly impact the State economy. The greatest part of the tolls collected are absorbed by the cost and maintenance of the toll collecting procedure. Once tolls are removed, the road is eligible for federal funds. Tolls should be removed immediately.

Tolls should have ended long ago! And they want to clean the air in N.J.?

CAT is doing more for the people of this state, and their quality of life, than any elected official I can think of. I applaud you.

If Connecticut can do it, the fine state of New Jersey certainly can.

Governor McGreevey, Please do not join the long list of spineless politicians who have backed down on their campaign promise to remove these ecologically destructive, dangerous and counter productive tolls on New Jersey roads.

I can't thank CAT enough for your efforts. When I think of the political pit the toll roads in NJ have become I get sick. Enough is enough, please let me know how else I might be able to help.

Stop and go stop and go. It's highway robbery. Might as well use local roads as the time spent is literally the same. Hey why let the local back road users getaway from paying tolls. Why don't we implement tolls on those roads too?

The amount of money generated and wasted by the NJ government is appalling. This would be a good start to show you have a pair.

Dear Governor, THINK!

It is a real pain traveling the parkway and having to stop every twenty miles to pay a toll.

Tolls simply pay the salaries of the toll employees. We are funding jobs. The Tolls are unnecessary. Eliminate them.

Tolls cause more harm than they solve, thats if they solve any at all.

The best alternative to removing the tolls on the Parkway would be to have only 4 toll booths each charging a dollar until the bonds were paid off. Paying for EZ-Pass from toll cheats is an insult to everyone in New Jersey!

I have posted many anti toll comments on various forums and newsgroups. Tolls are unfair and unequitable and uneconomic. New Jersey should also complete the I-95 Somerset Freeway. This is a giant missing gap in the nation's interstate highway system and causes many travelers and long distance drivers onto the NJ Turnpike unnecessarily.

NJ is terribly congested. I take the Raritan Bridge each day and 15 lanes going into 6 is a disaster and backs you up not to mention the pollution it causes. At least remove the Raritan Tolls.

The time of tolls in New Jersey must end now. All we are doing is just throwing money away and not knowing where it goes. This money goes into peoples pockets and doesn't help the present lack-luster times of New Jersey. This state needs reform, and it should start with the abolition of tolls.

Governor: Lets tear down these nonsense tolls now like you said you were going to do. Be a man like your Marine father and keep your word or is it going to be politics as usual. Come on, do your job and make us proud.

Tolls were never suppose to be a permanent agenda! When they were introduced to the people of New Jersey, we were told that it was a temporary fix to a temporary problem. Well, how long is temporary? The government just seems to keep finding ways to drain it's residents a little at a time. It seems a bit medieval to me. A lot like blood letting. Must you all lie to get what you want?

I am a trucker and tolls are driving me and many others out of business, we already pay enough taxes on fuel. If trucks stops America STOPS.

It's the aggravation of knowing that it's all unnecessary: the risk involved with fishing around in my pocket for change at 55 mph and associated with merging and changing speed at both ends of the toll booth risks, the wait in line, and the knowledge that I'm paying people to take money from me (while making my drive more dangerous and aggravating). It's difficult to understand why anyone would want tolls. Even being a toll collector can't be a rewarding "career".

I did a lot of research on this subject, due to the fact that I had to write a research paper for a college course. I totally agree with all of the comments. I myself have to take the parkway home, and I don't always have change on me. I am a full-time student in college and I cannot always afford the tolls. I have other things that are priority over a toll. (7800)

I can't believe anyone would vote for "McGreedy" for Governor! I guarantee he's going to raise taxes, and I'll be shocked if he removes the parkway tolls. New Jersey is a terrible place to live now!

My memory is long! The GW Bridge was promised to be toll free upon being paid for. The same was promised for the NJ Turnpike in the 1950's. Please explain why most other states don't tax their citizens like this.

To encourage off peak toll reductions is an insult to workers who take the Parkway and cannot alter their work schedule to save a couple of pennies.

I've been paying them for 31yrs. and was outraged when it went to $0.35 and hate them with a passion especially when it causes a 5 mile backup for nothing.

I am a college student at Monmouth but I frequently go home to Vineland on the weekends. It costs me about $5 each trip and that adds up especially for a college student where every dollar counts.

It is disgusting these bureaucrats want to raise the Delaware River crossings as high as the Hudson River crossings. The nerve of these crooks!

While I do not often use the Parkway, every morning I hear about the traffic on it. Everyday there are problems at the tolls. Be it natural slow down with volume or a crash, the Parkway tolls are costing more time and money than it could ever produce.

The arguments made by CAT make perfect sense. Eliminating tolls on the Parkway is a "no-brainer". What logic is there to putting a "roadblock" every ten miles or so on a road built to make travel easier? I would get to work in 20 minutes every day if it wasn't for the 4-mile back-up the Bergen toll booth causes! Not to mention the numerous times I've nearly been in an accident from people trying to cross 5 lanes of traffic to get in the correct toll lane! Wake up NJ legislators!!

Not only does NJ charge us for a highway that should have been paid for by now, but they then decide to do away with all use of tokens on the parkway. This is unacceptable and I will no longer pay the tolls, bells and flashing lights be damned.

I have been a long time resident of NJ and PA. And am currently commuting to and from CT. Something has to be done about these ridiculous tolls. We're not living in the stoneage after all.

The parkway has 2 lanes (ezpass and cash only ) lanes off the Van Houten exit for Clifton. On 10-23-01, I put my quarter in the cash only basket and proceeded like normal. Now I am being unfairly charged with a 25.00 fine because the NJ Parkway claims the cash only was closed that day. How could they have only ex pass lane open? I put the quarter in the basket because that lane was opened --no gate or red light. I wrote a letter stating what happened and they said my claim is dismissed. I do not lie nor cheat anyone but apparently the ?Parkway does.

Dear Governor, I have used the Parkway to commute to my office in Wayne, NJ for the last 19 years. The toll situation on the Parkway has gone from bad to ridiculous. I have experienced all of the toll nightmares described by other Parkway users firsthand; long toll lines, traffic delays and even an unwarranted summons related to EZPass, which was dismissed. There has got to be a better way to fund the Parkway. EZPass is just another financial disaster that is costing more and creating more problems than it is worth. Weren't the tolls supposed to be eliminated years ago when the Parkway building costs were recovered?

After visiting the CAT web-site (Citizens Against Tolls), which I discovered as a link under former Mayor Bret Schundler's web-site, I have become even more convinced that Parkway and other roadway tolls are unnecessary burdens to NJ drivers that cause traffic tie-ups, increased pollution, loss of fuel, and shear aggravation. "Tear down those darned Parkway tolls", and fund the Parkway in the same manner as the rest of our non-toll roadways.

I don't plan to be doing anything wrong, but I resent being monitored by my government or any other authority and then having to pay for it besides. These patronage roads have been paid for many times over. Now we are paying salaries and perks we don't want. Isn't it time NJ stopped bleeding its citizens?

It's plain to see that the toll system just fills the pockets of political friends of Parkway / Turnpike Authorities.

Why do you think every one move's when they retire? Because you drain us every way you can. I don't know what you think is so special about a road that you have the nerve to double tolls. I'm so tired of hearing how you need the money, what about us?

Keep the faith. We can end the tolls even if Gov. "McWeinie" forgets what he said when running for office.

How much money was spent to create the Token system? All of that money has now been flushed down the toilet. How much money was spent on the EZ-Pass system? When are government officials going to stop spending my money on failed programs? Seems to me that eliminating the tolls would SAVE millions of dollars, make the roadway safer, and make our air cleaner.

Tollbooths, toll collectors, and the bureaucracy that supports them are parasites on modern society. They produce nothing! EZ-Pass is not an answer. EZ-Pass is just a painless yet more sinister way for the govt. to pick our pockets. Much of the snarled, gridlocked traffic in New Jersey would be gone forever if we could only scrap tolls! I'd gladly pay a gas surtax or an addition to my state tax if we could only eliminate the tolls. (7700)

The "End Tolls" website has done a superlative job of addressing the "no tolls" issue, in particular the objections. I was one who had some of these objections, and was originally against ridding our state of tolls. After thoroughly reading their information, however, the decision seems obvious. It is time to move past tollbooths. Please do what you can to help bring this to a reality. Thank you.

We need to eliminate the tolls immediately, they serve no purpose other than to pay for the tollbooths and collectors salaries. I can think of better ways to spend my hard earned money than on tolls.

I work in NJ and drive more in NJ than NY. The parkway would work much better without tolls, look at I-95 in Connecticut - they don't miss the toll booths and congestion. NJ wouldn't either.

I only travel 32.4 miles to and from work and I encounter 3 toll plazas. These unorganized messes create not only a headache, but it causes congestion for miles. I enter the parkway from 280 and from Exit 145 to the first toll (about 2 miles later) I sit in stop and go traffic. I guess there is a reason that the Parkway is named just that - most of your trip is spent parked. I have noticed a direct correlation between the frequency of tolls and road rage. There is only a very small portion of the Parkway I can actually reach the speed limit during my very short commute.

When I was a young man I had been told the tolls would only stay for 10 years to pay for the Parkway!!!! Lies, Lies, Lies!!!!!

Tolls are just another word for Tax and I want them ended. Bonds are floated to extend the bogus reasoning to keep toll collecting. They say how do we pay for the bonds if we don't collect taxes, I mean tolls. Tolls are a way of keeping poorer people from getting home if they don't have the money to pay the ransom.

Please eliminate the tolls they are an accident trap and e-z pass just makes it worse because so few people have it and cross lines to get to an appropriate toll taker.

I Wish you success but we seem to have to many corrupt politicians you can drive in my town and find NJ Issued state cars that don't move for days at a time.

I drive each day from Bayville to New Providence and I spend $130.00 a month on tolls.

The tolls have long outlived their usefulness, becoming a burden on everyone both living and traveling through New Jersey. Eliminating them will benefit all people in the long run, and the only people who don't support this are the people who stand to make a buck off keeping the tolls. Thank you.

We pay road taxes for our roadways. Our tax money should be enough for our roads and bridges. We are being double taxed for our roadways. Tolls are unheard of out West.

The toll system is a wasteful bureaucratic machine that uses toll money to pay for the employees. Non toll roads are maintained in this state and in most other states without any decline in road quality. If you want to charge tolls to out-of-state trucks using the Turnpike, that is the only toll I would support.

Do away with tolls. Do away with unnecessary exhaust fumes. Fund the highways the same as the other non-toll roads. Let's save all the wasted fuel too.

It is highly unfair that anyone in the eastern or southern part of the State has to pay tolls to go on an Interstate Road while Rt 78 and 80 are toll-free.

Mr. Governor - I'm annoyed that we spent $488 million on EZ Pass. I recently received a ticket in the mail for a sum of money plus the $.35 toll that for whatever reason (computer glitch?) was not debited from my EZ Pass account. I called them on it. Was I randomly selected that day to pay extra? Is the intention to randomly select individuals to pay these 'tickets' as a plan to pay off the $488 million sooner? Is there a way to avoid these "computer glitches" in the future? (7600)

I have yet to understand why the most crowded road in the most crowded state in the most prosperous country is littered with tolls which serve only to impede the flow of the already congested traffic - just so the state can collect $0.24 of net revenue per vehicle. How does every other state survive? Why does our government intentionally try to harm us and make us suffer every day? There are ways to survive without the tolls. There are cut backs that can be made and wasteful spending that can be stopped so that we don't have to be subjected to this disaster of a daily nightmare. Do it.

I am a hard working college student at Ramapo College of New Jersey. For me to come home to visit my family I hit 12 toll booths round trip! Its amazing that I have to debate the extra cost of seeing my love ones! Down with the GSP tolls now!!

Thank you for a thoughtful and logical argument regarding toll roads. Do you plan to push for the elimination of other NJ tolls once the Parkway is toll-free?

Are they hypocrites? They install tougher emission standards on one hand but on the other, its okay to spend three plus hours during summer idling at toll plazas. Go figure?

I travel the parkway and the turnpike every day and last year it cost me over 2000 dollars.

Why is it that we are still paying tolls when their original purpose has long since been satisfied? I can drive across country and not pay a toll till I get home to the Good Ole Garden State and have to pay through the nose. As a interstate truck driver, I have talked with many other drivers who hate driving in this state just for this reason. Other states with no tolls have much nicer smoother cleaner Highways.

Research has support the fact that toll booths are the major cause of accidents and congestion - New Jersey's air environment deserves better. Remove the tolls immediately.

I couldn't agree with your message more tolls are the biggest waste of time and resources. The only thing they do is line the toll officials pockets. EZ Pass is another organization that needs to be dismantled. They went from an idea of how to break up congestion around the toll areas to a gestapo lie influence that dictates to us. The whole fiasco of doubling tolls to force people into becoming EZ Pass holders was to me "taxation without representation" all over again. It is time someone has stepped forward to stand up against this blatant thievery, thank you.

I moved here from NC and we had a lot more roads and we never paid tolls I cant understand why they want to spend 800 million for E-Pass and then do away with it, because the whole toll system doesn't work just pays a lot of fat cats to sit on their butts. I cant believe NJ voters keep letting Trenton get away with all of the taxes and tolls.

Unbelievable we put up with this crap for so long. Just be done with it. We made a mistake, spent a lot of money we didn't have. Why spend more trying to "so call" fix it. Trash the tolls, bite our lips and move on. The more we spend, the longer it will take. Just do it and stop crying!!!!!!!!

There is no reason for the tolls other than to line someone's pocket at the expense of NJ motorist. Which includes more than just the 35 cent troll collection (Yes, I mean TROLL) as the added STRESS of waiting, racing to, thru and out of the tollbooths, negotiating the crooked lines leading to lane 13 and not to mention the fine sent, if by chance you missed the basket when avoiding an accident because the confused driver of vehicle #2 almost hit you because the lines to lane 12 are just as crooked.

Stop making us pay for something that has been paid 20 times already.

I have documentation from the State of New Jersey stating that 1 penny of gasoline tax generates $40 million dollars which will eliminate the need for tolls and maintain the parkway for at least a year.

The toll roads have been paid off for years. The money they would save from paying parkway employees could go for the repair of the roads. Just the salaries, pensions, and health ins cost alone would go a long way in paying for the road repairs.

This beast has taken on a life of its own. Stop this sinkhole of patronage and nepotism now.

I lived in California for a few years and it was wonderful to see what transportation can be like without tolls!! AND THE ROADS WHERE MUCH NICER!

I drive a limo every day and the stoppage at tolls on GSP,ACX & NJT are a major cause of road rage in this state. (7500)

Taxes are high enough in NJ. There is no reason why we should have to pay extra just to use a NJ road!

Tolls have become a bottomless money pit that keeps feeding on itself. I will vote for whichever candidate who says the garden state tolls have to go.

I don't know how they sleep at night!

I thought that EZ-Pass was for the purpose of saving the driver time and money. Many times the EZ-Pass lanes are longer than others and it cost me more money than tokens. How does that make sense? The only thing EZ-Pass is good for is that I don't have to worry about carrying change.

AX the ridiculous wasteful tax on toll roads nationwide. It's not right that us truckers have to pay 30 bucks for a 2 mile section of poor road.

The most inefficient way of administering taxes. I can't believe that grownup men actually implemented this system on the GSP!

Why doesn't the insurance companies take a stand, think of all the claims they won't have to pay out when this accident causing way for our state to make money is GONE.

Ever get that lump in your throat when you see a tollbooth ahead sign? I don't know what was worse, the numbered lanes, the cars shifting to get to the right lanes (token, E-Z Pass, exact change, etc) or trying to figure out which lane I was supposed to be in. The tollbooths have gotten so colorful with the new signs. I think there should be a brochure telling drivers how to use the tollbooths, but that would require more money. No, it has gone too far. Get rid of the tolls and pay for roads in some sensible way.

We drive from Brick to Clark daily, have seen plenty of accidents and near misses from cars darting across lanes at the tolls. EZpass sucks too! It's time to eliminate the tolls forever!!!!!

I'd rather pay a tax increase than have the time consuming tolls with an antiquated need and surly people from a patronage laden system.

Tolls on the GSP should be eliminated. These tolls cause additional traffic delays and I have seen numerous accidents on the approach to some of the larger toll plazas. The latest issue with EZ-Pass and the 5 mile speed through the toll is really ridiculous - you can travel at 5 mph and toss your token! - so just what is the advantage?

Why is it that when the government first put in these tolls, they said they would be gone in a few years. I drive into Jersey City almost everyday and see signs that celebrate a 40th anniversary of the tollbooth. First of all, why is it ok for the government to lie to us, misuse our money and taxes, and face no penalties? But if we go over the speed limit, we get pulled over? What the hell is going on here?

I live in Somers Point where I feel there is the WORST toll set-up in the history of things that do not make sense in New Jersey. At this time Exit 30 on the Garden State Parkway is the only way into Ocean City. So, the people that get paid so much money came up with a brilliant plan to add a third toll, but they never thought about making the road after the toll more than one lane. So all that money spent to make the toll better was well spent because people are still getting backed up for miles. I would love to hear from the DOT why they think that was such a good idea.

Oh no, time for me to go back to work (teaching) in north jersey. I dread it. These tolls are killing us. Between three of us, we are paying $1000 a year on tolls.

EZ Pass is a major failure and should be eliminated immediately. All the bureaucrats from Trenton should drive from exit 161 to 105 on a Friday and there would be no need for petitions like this.

Toll plazas are the most non-productive method of paying for roads. They are the most productive method of polluting our air, increasing congestion, and holding up New Jerseyans.

Get rid of them please!!! I already paid for two bogus tickets. Its funny how there is no way to contest your case. (7400)

The cost of these tolls to drivers in time and aggravation is vastly higher in economic terms than the money which is generated by the tolls. They should be abolished. This question is a major factor in my voting decisions in the state of New Jersey.

I absolutely hate the concept of toll roads and I am glad that an organization exists to works towards toll road elimination. I have no problem paying for the maintenance of our roads, however, I do not think that wasting my time, gas, automobile wear, additional gas pollution, contribution to stress and/or road rage, and just plain inefficient use of fund collecting does the American people any service. After working nearly half the year to pay my taxes, the last thing I want to do is sit in traffic waiting to pay a toll. Enough is enough.

I lived in the south for many years before moving to NJ. Not having paid toll at all in the south, having to pay it to drive on any major highway or to cross the bridges seems to me as the northeast state's gimmick to take more money out of the citizens. If 40 or so other states can live without tolls, so can NJ. Get rid of those toll bureaucracies.

Ditto for the A.C. Expressway. On Saturday a usual 1 hr. 15 min. ride to the shore took 2 1/2 hours due to traffic backups at the tolls. A trip to the local swimming pool is becoming more appealing. These avoidable traffic jams could result in loss of revenue for our Jersey shore merchants.

Tolls have to be one of the best scams going. I have driven the parkway every day for 15 years! I have seen this nasty workers put the change in the pockets. I was mailed a ticket once, they claimed I didn't pay the toll. But after I lost my days pay to go to court, they said their machine malfunctioned. "oops- sorry, most people just mail in their fine" that was their response.

All the arguments that defenders of the tolls make are nonsense. I live in southern NJ and everywhere I go I have to pay tolls. Just look at the traffic backups and accidents and pollution due to an antiquated system of funding roads. Go to other states and see beautiful UNTOLLED roads. Enough is enough. I've always said NJ citizens for the most part are just a flock of sheep that give up all their wool.

Welcome to the 21th Century. Let's do away with this antiquated collection system. Even EZ Pass doesn't help enough to justify the cost in delay time and wasted fuel. Not to mention the dangers involved in approaching the toll booths.

I am so disgusted with all the toll booths in NJ. It is about time someone does something about it. They're just another way of the government financially raping the public. What else is new!!!

Visited NJ for a Week. Probably won't come back unless those expletive deleted tolls are eliminated!

The Governor who finally has the guts to do away with this archaic, idiotic way of collecting road fees will go down in New Jersey history.

I get tickets for tolls I have paid because your illustrious EZ PASS doesn't work.

As an employee of municipal government, I can confidently state that anything government wishes to fund and/or accomplish, it can. Old debts can be cancelled, unneeded employees are given the gate when funding ceases (it's happened repeatedly to me in private and public sector positions), and featherbedding "commissioners" can be made redundant. This is a polluting, cash-cow monster which must go before it causes more damage to our environment and economy. With fewer toll-caused traffic accidents, we might even entice some of those Johnny-Come-Lately insurance companies back into the state. Enough with the tolls, already. They are an obscenity and a 21st century holdover of a sad and sorry 20th century political ripoff. By the way, I don't believe for a second that any of the mainstream candidates for governor are sincere about removing the tolls. If any of them is sincere, he/she should be willing to sign-off on a certification that if the tolls are not "sunsetted" within a year into their administration, he/she will step down and there will be a special gubernatorial election held. Look how easy it was to reschedule Tuesday's primary election. A special election could be just as easily implemented. How about some FRESH AIR, you guys? (7300)

The toll booths, especially since EZPass was instituted, are a death trap. No wonder insurance companies are leaving the state. End the tolls and reduce insurance costs.

GSP: The only toll highway in the United States that fleeces its users twice; on the highway, and then at the toll booths on the exit ramps.

I find it ironic that you can drive all day in some states in this country, and I use RT. 81 in VA. as an example, and never pay a nickel for toll. I might also add that the road is a better surface and much better maintained as it relates to overall quality. Also, EZ Pass----isn't that a joke whereby the agency collects all this money before the motorist even drives onto the road. What a great cash cow.

No tolls coupled with public education regarding courtesy and passing on the left. Aaahhh to dream....

It's amazing how it takes ALL toll collectors on the GSP 15 seconds to make 15 cents change from 2 quarters. They must love the carbon monoxide.

Every time I pull up to a toll; I need to remove my seat belt, remove my wallet from my back pocket, make correct change, and defend myself from other drivers doing the same -- all while driving a vehicle at 60MPH. I'm glad that I live in Connecticut.

In a state as small and densely populated as New Jersey, I am in full agreement to do away with tolls. If a state as large as California can have FREEways, then I know NJ can do the same. These tolls are a safety hazard, and EZPass is just not the solution.

I think toll booths are one of the most inefficient and environmentally damaging ways to pay for roads and bridges.

Keep the dream of getting these tolls abolished. Other states have done away with tolls in the past and NJ should be no different. Tolls have been a way of life for far to long in NJ...I think we are all ready for change. (7200)

Its time to stop legalized theft! Let's systematically remove all public officials who support legalized theft, and take back our Government!

Raritan Toll Plaza is the worst!

Every time I go see my parents I have to go through 7 tollbooths for $.35 each. Only NJ could have such a stupid system. Needless to say, I don't see them very much in the summer, as each toll booth creates at least a 10 minute backlog. I don't even get a discount for using EZ pass!!! Toll collecting is NJ's version of welfare. Lay off toll collectors and put them on welfare, it would be cheaper. Any toll collector with less than 5 years on the job could be laid off. Those close to retirement could be given an early retirement package. Others could be given opportunities for other state jobs, such as at Motor Vehicle where we have other mindless workers.

Opponents might say that "users should pay the tolls". If we extend this logic then senior citizens should not pay school taxes, my tax money should not be siphoned off to support the city of Camden (which I never use), etc. etc.

Tolls create an untold amount of environmental, social , psychological and physical damage that I challenge anyone to calculate. May common sense prevail!

Look at the charter for the GSP and the NJTpke, then look at the statute. I believe that there is a provision in the charter that will allow them to exist only until the debts are paid off. Then they float bond after bond after bond to stay alive.

I know from recent EZ Pass toll payment problems I have had that the administration of that program has grievous problems. For example, just to straighten out one $0.35 toll problem the stamps for our correspondence alone cost $1.36. Does this make any sense?

I moved to NJ three years ago. I think the parkway tolls are one of the biggest negative aspects of NJ's quality of life. Yes, they got EZ Pass. Big deal. They screwed it up of course, by using the "specific lane system", so now there is even more last minute lane jockeying. Not to mention the outrage I feel about paying more with EZ pass than with tokens. What morons!!

ANY other way of paying for necessary road work would be preferable to the current method of paying while you sit in Ungodly traffic and waste hours of your life. I understand the need for the funds - but HONESTLY - find a better way to collect it that doesn't affect our quality of life so negatively!!!!

Tolls are a dangerous way to produce revenue for our highways. I for one have come into near misses of where cars that are not use to New Jersey's great toll system cutting me off and almost causing an accident. Why there are 7 lanes of tolls that will lead into 2 lanes of traffic is dangerous. It is like a game of chicken coming out of the tolls. (7100)

Now that the Garden State Parkway has fully implemented the EZ Pass system, isn't it a load off all our minds that we will not have to wait in those long traffic jams this summer.

I find the State of NJ ludicrous in their blind robbery of the public through a system of never ending tolls. The government is deceitful to make the public believe that tolls roads are necessary to maintain the roads. Take your blinders off and look outside the state of NJ at other states that have much better roads and NO TOLLS! Given that NJ is the most congested state in the country, it is inconceivable that our elected officials have not acted immediately to alleviate the primary source of our congestion and pollution: tolls!

First the Parkway, then the Turnpike!

Taxation Without Representation!!! (7000)

I'm sick of the congestion, confusion, hassles, delays, and paying toll takers high salaries for making change and giving directions. It is stupid to pay non-professional people the kind of salaries that they are making!

Even though I don't use the Parkway or Turnpike often, I would rather pay an extra few cents on a gallon of gas or a few bucks more in taxes to help eliminate tolls. The citizens of New Jersey should have the opportunity to vote on this.

My wife commutes 50 miles everyday on the GSP and for 15 years has suffered the congestion, delays, wasted fuel and dangerous conditions created by those useless toll booths. It's way past time to tear them down. Whoever gets rid of them will be our hero!

Tolls add an unbelievable amount of pollution to our environment.

One of the best things that could happen to New Jersey will be the day tolls are abolished!

STOP THE HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! ! (...literally!)

EZ pass is a nightmare. I would like to know how many accidents have happened since EZ-Pass has been in effect. Someone is going to get killed just to pay a 35 cents toll!!! I have noticed that there are less exact change booths and cash only booths during rush hour traffic. They are trying to force people to buy into the EZ-Pass way. I for one will not.

I have been in many near-miss accidents near toll plazas on the GSP. If you (State of NJ) are concerned about highway safety then eliminating tolls is a necessary action.

If the tolls cannot be eliminated all the time, then you should seriously consider eliminating them on Friday, especially from Memorial Day - Labor Day!

Keep them coming people! - jp
