21 Virginia Beach Summer Swiss. We had 42 entries for the Spring Swiss.
The prize fund was
increased to $1000.00. The Summer advance entry list is now
posted.
Chess study group If you are interested in a guided chess
study class, please contact me immediately, preferably by 6/22.
This is designed for players with ratings of 800 or higher.
The class will cover how to improve. The study group will meet
weekly for about 6-10 weeks. The meeting site and specific dates will
be determined the next week or two.

Championship for active, reserve, retired Military and ROTC students
with Military ID. Free entry.

Chess Research Prof. James Gould of the University of No.
Colorado is conducting a chess research
project. I encourage you to participate. He writes:
"As a chess player and researcher at the University of Northern
Colorado I am exploring the psychological nature of chess
as well as the social benefits afforded chess enthusiasts. The results
from this study will be published in a popular press
chess magazine. We invite you to participate in this study to help
further the intellectual pursuit of chess. The questionnaire takes
approximately 12 to 15 minutes to complete and is devoted
entirely to chess. Additional information is available on the 1st page

Saturday Peninsula Chess Club
in Hampton. Frank
Wennin has organized an open and scholastic chess club at the
Career Youth Cafe in Hampton. Next Saturday will be the 4th of 10 weeks.
The club meets from 2-4 pm. It is free.
The Career Youth cafe is located at 5200 W.
Mercury Blvd. Hampton,
VA 23605
(Near Sears & Piccadilly
Inside Netcenter).
Bring your sets and boards. Volunteers will give chess lessons. Enter
through the Piccadilly entrance and go to the
information desk. The Cafe is to the left. Closed on
Memorial Day, club ends after the last meeting in June.
Spring and summer scholastic
events by the VSCA. Hi young players! Keep your game in
shape.
Play in some of the events scheduled for the spring and summer in the
Richmond area. 7/19 & 8/17.

The Tidewater Chess Club meets every Tuesday evening from 6:45 to 10 pm
at the Beth Messiah synagogue, 7130 Granby Street across from Granby
HS. Play
casual or USCF rated chess.
Free to play casual chess or watch the
events. Rated events have a small entry fee and require USCF membership.
