| I've always been adamant about sketching. Generally, when viewing an art book, or viewing
an artists show, you don't see many of their sketches. Most of what you see are their finished works. What you
don't see, are those works that the artist never intended for anyone to see. These are images that can take a few
minutes (an consist of very few lines) or ones that take much longer. But they are all spur of the moment works.
An idea strikes...a feeling persists and a pen, pencil is taken in hand. An image is drawn and then tucked away.
The only audience able to see them are the artist, or those that the artists chooses to show them to. An enormous
part of an artists work, the angst of the artist, are entombed in long forgotten sketch books. In my case, the
bulk of my remaining work...are my sketches. As such, the following pages contain most of who I am (or was.) In my opinion (for what it's worth)...a finished piece, is work that an artist agonizes about. Wanting the image to reflect a feeling borne over many days, weeks, months, or even years. But their sketches are borne over a moment of passion. These are the images that truly reflect what is in their mind's eye. And in many cases, these are images that an artist doesn't generally want others to see. Life Sketches Fanciful Faces Preliminary Sketches Miscellaneous Artist Model Sketches |
