Mr. Garrard is retired from General Electric where he worked as an engineer. He has three children who live in Alabama, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania, and has family living in Florida and New England. Mr. Garrard has been a member of Congregational churches for much of his life, and is now pleased to be part of the Faith Church family. His hobbies include bowling, playing bridge, and ballroom dancing.

Come to Faith UCC the third Friday night of each month from 7:00-9:30 and enjoy time together with other crafty Christian ladies. The 2005 meeting times are Nov. 18, and Dec. 16. Gather your craft projects together and get ready to have many fun evenings together.

Hurricane Relief Fund

Hurricane Katrina has destroyed lives, homes and businesses. Many of us are wondering what we can do to help. We can offer financial donations or nonperishable goods. Please make a gift check payable to Faith UCC marked “hurricane relief” and we will ensure that your gift goes to the FL Conference or Wider Church Ministries of the UCC. Or if you prefer to donate non-perishable goods such as canned protein, non-perishable food, baby diapers, baby wipes, baby food, toothpaste and brushes and toiletries, please drop these items off at the church in the box marked Hurricane Relief. Faith UCC will deliver these goods to the Salvation Army warehouse in Sarasota, FL.

Thank you for your concern and support.

Congregational Meeting on November 20, 2004

The Board of Governors is calling a congregational meeting immediately after church on Sunday, November 20. The purpose is to vote on the recommendations to of the Building Faith committee regarding the pursuit of a capital campaign for building an addition to our church, approval of plans and a builder for the addition, and the adoption of a time frame for completion of the building project. Prior to the vote, all church members will receive detailed financing and building plans. Also, absentee ballots will be mailed prior to the vote to those members who request a ballot from our church secretary, Judy. Our Board of Governors secretary, Scott Brownell, will approve procedure and dispersal of the ballots.

It is imperative that all members make it a priority to attend this very important vote regarding the future ministries of our church. Please take the next two months to ask questions and study the plans. At the September 25 quarterly meeting, Building Faith provided further details regarding this endeavor and will continue to provide whatever data is needed to help clarify this next area of growth for our church. Please mark your calendars now to attend this important congregational meeting.

Planned Giving - The Endowment Program

Planned Giving - The Endowment Program of our church offers a variety of ways for the membership to participate. The keystone of planned giving is your will. We encourage you to have a will, and if you have one, keep it up to date. The Endowment Committee will be happy to answer your questions. Wanted…. your aluminum cans for processing.  What is especially nice are those cans that have been rinsed out with water, the tabs removed, and delivered in the crush mode.  The most important of the three to me are the cans that have been rinsed out with water.  The sticky stuff doesn't ride  well in the family car.  As for the tabs, these are given to the Shrine Children's hospital for prosthesis replacements of growing children.  You can hand these to me any time you see me in church. -Jack Williams

Faith Preschool Begins

On September 6th, Faith Preschool opened the doors on it’s 10th school year! Be prepared to see beautiful works of art decorating the church hallway and the sound of sweet voices of happy children in the air. We welcomed 38 new and returning families to our center and are proud to have our entire staff return for another fantastic year!

Faith Preschool is looking for a few good church members…..We would love to invite anyone from the church congregation to come into our classrooms to possibly share a musical gift, gardening, storytelling, a special collection, a secret talent, a special craft or a cooking project. You can come in once or as often as you like. We will be happy to work around your schedule. The preschool is open daily from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This is always a special treat for the children and the teachers. Please call Bonnie Dorigo at 746-7895 if you would be willing to donate your time.

Many thanks and we look forward to another great school year.

Thanks ..

A big thank you to Catherine Ogles and Denise Henry for spending many hours in the hot sun cutting back the Preschool “Butterfly Garden.” Your time and hard work was greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to Boy Scout Troop #89 and also to Dick Sluss for emptying the classrooms in preparation for cleaning. We greatly appreciate your time and help.

We believe Faith UCC is the most supportive and loving congregation. Our heartfelt thanks for the many cards, flowers, calls, food and offers of assistance. The hospitality and kindness shown at Ray’s memorial service to those attending who were not members was mentioned to us by many who attended.
  • Thanks to Pastor Paul for the beautiful memorial service. We also thank him for all the support he gave the whole family during Ray’s illness and his visits after Ray’s death.
  • The music was beautiful! Thanks Evie & Doris.
  • To those of you who offered your words of remembrance know that you touched our family deeply. Margy Stewart & family

BACK BAY MISSION

The South Central UCC Conference has within its jurisdiction an old historic mission at Back Bay in Biloxi Mississippi. Hurricane Katrina wreaked considerable damage to `almost all of the buildings--- some by flood, some by wind, and some by fire. Almost all of the staff lost their homes and contents and for several days the personal safety of the staff members was unknown. They are all safe at this writing.

The director of the mission, Rev. Shari Prestemon, wrote on September 6,  telling about their thankfulness for surviving and even though they lost buildings-- some were lifted off the foundations and dropped back down- extensive work would have to be done to make them habitable again. The extent to which any of the buildings are structurally salvageable is a question to answer down the road. But for now we simply know that we have no facilities out of which to operate. Rev. Shari goes on, “the question that looms before me and before the staff and the board of directors is this: How does one capably serve when every tool every piece of information every container for ministry has been stripped away?” We are joined by wonderful partners in the national setting of the United Church of Christ who have been solid companions in this startling journey and who are standing by with pledged financial assistance and practical help when requested. Many of you are more than willing to help breathe new life back into this historic place. Rev. Shari has offered suggestions as to how we can be of help:
1.Offer financial assistance through the UCC's wider hurricane relief by making a check payable to Faith United Church of Christ and in the memo line write Back Bay Mission.
2.Think of ways that you may be able to offer on-site assistance
3.Persevere in Prayer. Your prayers and continued compassion are essential to us.

Update received from Bill Royster--Interim Conf. Min-- South Central Conf. on Sept 18th written by Pastor Bill on Sept 13th. from Cleveland Of the 9 UCC churches in the greater New Orleans area, 6 suffered major water damage. 7 of the 8 pastors have been heard from and Dillard University has major water damage and fire. Pastor Bill's message to those of us who have been spared the trauma of mother nature's actions is this--Do not send any material goods to them at this time as they do not have the personnel or the place to store these items. Financial assistance at this time will help to support the clergy, assist families who have been relocated, maintain health care insurance premiums for clergy and staff, help restore Back Bay Mission to a functioning entity, assist in rebuilding those churches damaged in the storm. The long haul of physical and material recovery will likely not begin for several weeks. Once the Red Cross and FEMA are gone (They are the immediate responders) then it will be up to the churches and the Church World Services to carry on and they will need our continuing support.

Pastor Bill's closing with, "Oh Dear Ones-- you are such a blessing to each of us and to each other. I truly celebrate that we are the church!" Bill and Gail Royster
